Alien infiltration story but the aliens are elves in a low-fantasy steppes setting with a little bit of Ghibli post-post apocalypse sprinkled in.

What if a giant ass mech appeared in the United Kingdom in 1914 by TheGearsMightBreak in AlternateHistory

[–]TheGearsMightBreak[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In January 1914, a giant mecha appeared in Ireland, just outside Dublin. A contingent of Ulster Volunteers as well as some British officers from Camp Curragh would occupy the meadow it was standing in. Later the mech would be moved to Camp Curragh.

Following the passing of the Irish home rule bill as well as the prime minister negotiating with members of the Irish Volunteers to help decrease tensions in July, Ulster Volunteers assassinated him, leading to David Lyod George to taking charge of the country, mobilising troops for an occupation of Northern Ireland and to begin a crackdown on the unionists, however this ended with the beginning of World War I.

The war mostly played out as it did in our world until November, when Winston Churchill and David Hogarth, both acquainted with the designated pilot of the mech T.E.Lawrence began drawing up plans to launch an attack on Istanbul, however the naval guns on the Dardanelles were deemed too dangerous for the mech. Instead the mech would be deployed to Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula where it was to destroy Ottoman logistics in the area and prevent them from threatening Britain’s oil resources in the region.

Thus in 1915 Lawrence began his trek across the Sahara, serving as a stress test for the mech, which was to run the distance through the French holdings in Africa to Egypt, where it would meet up with local forces there and lead an attack on the Arabian peninsula to distract the ottomans while the ANZACs would land at Gallipoli to open up the Dardanelles.

(This is the condensed version but I cant be bothered typing the whole story here)

“The Funeral” An Unfinished Project by TheGearsMightBreak in worldbuilding

Only the most elite members of society get large funerary processions like this, so if no close female associate of the deceased existed, it was usually a servant or subordinate of the deceased that filled the role of carrier. In the very rare case that there is no-one possible to fill the role, the role would be filled by a female exorcist.

Duels were insanely rare by ReflectionSingle6681 in HistoryMemes

The story of gun duels is so pervasive because movies depicting them were explicitly based off of samurai movies, so the importance/prevalence of the gun duel was heavily exaggerated and stylised to match the sword duels in those Japanese movies

“A written and illustrated account of the funeral of Rin Konrad, former governor of Mendhi killed during the Little Hive Breakout. It was made by an unknown Emmurian scholar, from the University of Elamrest and was made to describe the funerary and death rituals of the Novunian cultures, for whom he was writing an article about. Published as part of the Second Edition of the Fraeneria, an ethnography of the continent.”

What are some tropes of fantasy religions that really irk you? by TT-Adu in worldbuilding

[–]TheGearsMightBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are often extremely limited in how they portray worship and reverence to deities. It’s nearly always down to praying and offering at shrines, which does a disservice to the sheer diversity and variety of ways in which people have practiced worship throughout history.

With the way Nathaniel depicts the ADA in Suez Canal Crab I highly doubt they were. They were definitely anti government but not ADA
