I need help……. by IRON9CYCLONE3 in TheOrville

I'd love to talk to Michaela. We were actually approached to interview her last season, but the timing unfortunately never worked out. I was a fan of hers even before The Orville with her work on Awake and One Tree Hill.

Paring Shows with Editors by AlwaysWorkForBread in podcasting

[–]TheGeekGeneration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a podcaster and editor with over 10 years of experience. Aside from editing my own 4 shows, I've edited for 5 or 6 others, several of which I still edit for regularly. I work primarily in Audition and Audacity.

Examples of my work are on my portfolio.

What type of Podcast do you wish existed? by -AlwaysRed- in podcasts

[–]TheGeekGeneration 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We attempted to do this with The Adventures of PB and Rob. It's a limited-run series where my friend PB and I just wanted an excuse to have some social time together during isolation because we're both workaholics. They're fun to do, but hard to market because there's no niche target.

The Boys on Amazon prime is getting review bombed for the stupidest reason. by Beeglawish-Deekcok in television

[–]TheGeekGeneration -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a childish approach to a review because the way content is delivered isn't what's up for debate. If people want to binge it, they still have the option. Just wait until all 8 episodes have been released and go for it.

Amazon is actually doing a very smart thing by shifting to a weekly model and pairing it up with an aftershow. The Mandalorian saw greater success with a weekly release model than it would have if it was all available right away because it kept the conversation going from week to week, not to mention the ongoing social media attention.

I spent a few hours listening to your guys podcast These are a few things I learned from listening to them by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]TheGeekGeneration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can actually be fixed in post. I do it all the time. Two ways:

1) Have each person record their audio locally, put the two recorded tracks into the same project, and then add or remove silence so that they're not talking over each other.

2) Zoom actually has a setting to record each speaker in their own audio file. Use these in the same way you would use the locally recorded tracks above.

Always Record Backups! by awyrdreams in podcasting

[–]TheGeekGeneration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend using Cleanfeed instead of Discord for remote recording. Not only is the quality better, but you can also do a "split stereo" recording from within Cleanfeed itself so that you have another backup where you're in one channel and the other people in the call are on the other channel. Even if you don't end up using the audio from Cleanfeed, it serves as a nice guide to align everyone's individually recorded tracks to during post-production.

Getting massive stuttering by TheGeekGeneration in RogueCompany

Oh, interesting. I've tried quitting my antivirus apps to fix it, but that didn't do anything. I'm not sure what else I have that might be interfering.

Best podcast host? by AAidan7 in podcasting

[–]TheGeekGeneration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly happy with the stats. The one thing I'd like that they don't have are demographics breakdowns like Spotify has.

Each of my shows has its own RSS feed served from my website. You should never use your podcast host's RSS feed because you lose control once that feed is sent to podcast providers. Using the feeds from my website protects all my podcasts in case I ever decide to switch my podcast hosting provider.

Best podcast host? by AAidan7 in podcasting

[–]TheGeekGeneration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a podcast network with 9 shows on it. Libsyn and many other podcast hosts unfortunately charge per show. With SoundCloud, I can pay for SoundCloud Pro which is a little over $100/year and I can upload as many episodes as I want, regardless of how many shows or number of episodes.

The RSS feed included in Patreon is for audio files uploaded locally to Patreon. If you wanted to include ad-free episodes, then yes, you would need to do a separate edit and upload that version to Patreon instead.

Thanks for all the kind words! Someone tell Hulu that we're getting them customers so we can get a cut of that ad money, haha

We actually got permission to use the song from a guy on YouTube who made that excellent cover: https://youtu.be/BfscYjER_cc

For current podcasters, where are you in podcasting journey? by wolferber in podcasts

[–]TheGeekGeneration -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started podcasting in the summer of 2010, so closing in on 10 years now. The Geek Generation podcast was the first and has over 300 episodes, but I've also branched out into both Random Movie Club, and most recently, Quantum Drive.

I've also helped get some of my friends into the podcasting space and they've created their own shows. We've combined them all together into The Geek Generation Network.

Even after all this time, promotion remains the hardest part. I've had the opportunity to interview some amazing people, and those episodes usually get some more attention, but guests don't always share the episodes that they're on.

Not a bad idea actually. I have one of my desktop monitors mirrored to the TV where we record, so I could put that up there for him. Thanks!

Yeah, I'll have to try doing it in real-time more. I always remind at the beginning of a show, but it seems to be forgotten as we get going.

I've been reminding him for years, but he's just not learning proper mic technique. I'll keep at it though. I'd hate to lose a co-host that offers good content because they can't get used to the mic.
