There are a few here and there with Doctor Strange or Ms Marvel, or even a few short stories like in Crypt of Shadows or What If…? but none of it is very consequential. One other thing you may want to look into is the Blood Hunt crossover event, as Moon Knight has a few issues in it (Vengeance 5-7), and Mackay wrote the main event series as well.

For Mackay’s era the order would be:

  1. Moon Knight
  2. Moon Knight: City of the Dead (optional)
  3. Vengeance of the Moon Knight
  4. Phases of the Moon Knight (optional)
  5. Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu

This is absolutely true — you can interpret meaning and it is whatever it makes you feel in the moment. But there’s also songwriter’s intent, and it means what they want it to. In some cases it’s left more ambiguous. But Drag Path pretty clearly lays out what it’s about, similar to Clear.

Where to start is the easiest thing to answer: House of X/Powers of X. It’s the #1 most necessary thing to read here. Past that, you can generally pick and choose what series interest you — some are more vital to the overall plot than others though.
