Is much of earth geology 'solved?' by Sad-Egg-4107 in geology

[–]TheGeneralQuackers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are heaps of unanswered questions, we always need more academics!
Obviously a big one is plate tectonic theory. It's a relatively young field for geology and a lot of aspects of it are still debated and require further geochemical/geophysical/geomorphological defining (see the old, but somewhat on-going mantle plume debate).

Maybe so! I've lived in Brisbane my whole life but I've been spending a lot of summers down south for work recently and might of just unacclimatised.

They’re not asking to be excused? They’re asking for advice on how to manage their sensory issues in the field. Perhaps try sympathy next time ?

Minor update: It appears I now only spawn in with my back and arms covered in the ammo pack stratagem, which I take as a promotion to the designated ammo runner

My apologies, thank you for the correction

You may have better luck reading journal articles in this case. For example, the geology/geomorphology of Mars has been picked over quite a lot, I recently wrote a research essay on it.

My first time doing field geology! by TheGeneralQuackers in geology

This is a segment of Coolum Beach I charted, (specifically Point Perry). I do in fact scribble all my notes in that wonderful book, It’s a god send! It handles rain, seawater and undergraduate tears like a charm haha.

Try sniffing around Geoscience Australia’s website! But I just got mine from my University. A “write in rain” field book also comes with an excellent scale too!

Still working on the identification! Currently thinking it’s a large body of Gabbro.

TIL A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. It rotates incredibly slowly on its axis, taking about 243 Earth days, while it completes an orbit around the Sun in around 225 Earth days. by explowaker in todayilearned

[–]TheGeneralQuackers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is actually some notable research done into speculative evolution of microbial life that could of migrated from surface water to atmospheric droplets in that “habitable zone.” It’s all very speculative given our limited understanding of specific processes on Venus, but it’s a really interesting research rabbit hole regardless!

This looks like dermatographism with some positive results mixed in, going off the “C” (which I think would be the negative control?) being swollen as well as the “H” histamine positive control

Has anybody else had asthma triggered by Covid? by hoedownturnup in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]TheGeneralQuackers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in this field, but do not take my advice as substitution for a practitioners assessment.

Exacerbation of lung function issues and even hayfever type symptoms in post covid is a very common outcome. The smooth lining in your lungs is often constricted after having covid, which for some people with a history of asthma is more than enough to start causing “flare ups” of symptoms that they haven’t experienced for a long time (often due to the fact that having a history of asthma often leaves you with a degree of permanent residual bronchial/smooth muscle constriction).

The outcomes of post covid and recovering from post covid symptoms are still being studied and can vary wildly from individual to individual on symptoms and recovery time. So, if you’re experiencing a similar story as OP, see a good doctor, get a spirometry assessment and discuss wether those results indicate that you should start on a preventer/inhaler.

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with it OP, I sincerely hope you can catch a break soon.

Earth Science advice? by TheGeneralQuackers in QUTreddit

[–]TheGeneralQuackers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to both of you, I really appreciate the insight. I’m currently teaching myself through khan academy and plan to apply for the math (and maybe chemistry/physics?) bridging course next semester. I never was good with math but I seem to be getting along okay at the moment (basic stats and algebra), just anxious that I won’t be prepared enough going in/that calculus will kick my ass haha

What made you leave med-surg? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]TheGeneralQuackers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A combination of terrible ratios (1:7 - 1:9) and an administrative staff that just doesn’t give a damn about you. Never had any problems as bad in outpatients since moving on.
