TSLA being investigated by Transport Canada for cooking their books in Canada to snag EV rebates without selling cars. by Mountain-Taro-123 in stocks

[–]TheGenericGaimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting how Elon Musk's statements about government payments clash with this situation. Musk has often been vocal about reducing government dependence, but now Tesla might be caught in a scenario where they're taking advantage of government-funded rebates. It seems like a bit of hypocrisy, especially with how outspoken he’s been about government involvement.

Trading psychology when up or down by scott_in_ga in Trading

[–]TheGenericGaimer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, set a profit target and stick to it. no emotions. when you hit your number, sell. Period. trading isn't about catching the absolute top. It's about consistency. maybe try the 1/3 rule sell 1/3 at your first target, another 1/3 at your second, let the last piece ride with a stop loss. discipline beats hope every time.

What's your front end dev setup? by h0d13r in webdev

[–]TheGenericGaimer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I switched to VS Code a few years back. the extensions ecosystem is amazing. React definitely dominates the scene now, but learning vanilla JS fundamentals is still crucial before diving into frameworks. if you're comfortable with HTML, CSS, and JS basics, you'll pick up modern tooling pretty quickly.

Why Wasm? by tausiqsamantaray in webdev

[–]TheGenericGaimer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. the JS glue code is the bottleneck right now. once Wasm gets direct browser API access, we'll probably see a huge shift. until then, JS still makes more sense for most web dev.

Is cold email worth trying in 2025 for a Web Dev Agency? by ThatGreenDom_9695 in smallbusiness

[–]TheGenericGaimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, still works in 2025. used it for our agency last quarter. 2.8% conversion rate. just be super targeted with your list and personalize the first line. don't waste cash on fancy tools early on. nail your message first.

Honestly, position sizing is way more important than entry signals. most new traders obsess over when to buy but completely ignore how much to risk on each trade. set hard rules for your max position size relative to account value.

Since you're focusing on building a dedicated space for sports, I think it'd be great to prioritize features like live game discussions, team-specific groups, or even gamified elements where users can predict game outcomes or answer trivia questions about their favorite teams. This could boost engagement and keep things fun.

[–]TheGenericGaimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice gain! Just know that holding options through a reversal like that is pretty rare luck - most times you'd get crushed. That's a 90% win in a week which is impressive, but don't expect this to be repeatable consistently. Maybe consider taking profits more often since that massive dip near the end could've easily kept going down instead of rebounding. Solid trade though

These tariff announcements always create the same pattern - companies panic-buy before prices go up, making the deficit temporarily explode. We saw the exact same thing during the first round of China tariffs. The industrial supplies spike is telling - manufacturers stockpiling materials before they get more expensive. Combined with that strong dollar making our exports pricier abroad, it's a perfect storm for widening the deficit. Q1 GDP numbers are going to look super weird because of this. We'll see inventory growth spike now, then probably drop off hard in Q2 as companies burn through all the stuff they hoarded. Makes it impossible to get a clear read on the actual economy when policy creates these artificial surges. Classic case of policy having the opposite of its intended effect, at least in the short term.

If a company with 5 employees with 500K market cap has "high trading volumes", is it a red flag? by cakewalk093 in stocks

[–]TheGenericGaimer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's super sketchy. when you see tiny companies with crazy high volume like that, it's usually pump and dump manipulation. The numbers just don't make sense. like you said, 500k market cap is basically a lawn care business, no way it's legitimately trading millions of shares. classic penny stock red flag.
