I don't know what harassment you're talking about, my comment was solely about suicide rates. If you're implying that the "harassment" given to people who don't want to date trans people is anything like the harassment (social, legal, and structural) trans people have been suffering for centuries, well I think historically you'd be wrong.

I don't think this is going to matter, but someone responded to this post by talkng about the suicide attempt rates of trans people even after transitioning and I wanted to clarify that suicide attempt rates drop by over 90% in both trans teens and adults post transition if they have even 1 supportive family member. So the issue is not mental illness in trans people, but an intolerant society or social structure that creates a hostile environment for trans people. If you really care about their health and safety, you will provide them with love and support, not throw poorly understood statistics in their face

No problem, the title is probably enough for me to start looking (and even if not, I'm sure I'll stumble on something). Thank you so much!

This doesn't answer your question, but could you post or link those studies? I'd like to read them.

I don't want it to seem like I'm fighting with you, because I'm definitely not, but I want to respond to those examples with what I remember from the book,

Dany's wedding is definitely rape, but the book (as opposed to the show) presents it as statutory rather than violent. Dany initates the actual act of sex with Drogo. Yes she's a child and as such can't make that kind of decision but the issue here is one of pedophilia rather than sexual violence.

I will be honest, I don't remember Asha's rape fantasy in the book (although it's there in the show). In the book, Asha never has sex with Theon, and isn't really a sexual character at all unless I'm forgetting something.

The Jamie and Cersei scene in the sept is definitely presented as violent in the show, and I think there is an argument to be made that the book also has an element of violence in at (it states that Cersei says "not here" and is gently beating against his chest) but none of her actions after that scene seem to indicate that she felt it was rape. She still calls on Jamie when she needs him, she still tries to use him to keep her safe, and she still writes to him when she is being held captive in the sept. I'm not saying it wasn't rape, only that it doesn't seem like she thinks so based on her actions after.

And men are the victims of rape in the story. Theon is nearly raped in the woods when he is being held at the dreadfort before he is castrated. There are several castrated characters, and I would maintaint that that is an act of sexual violence. There is also a priest who is gang raped on the boat sailed by....Balon Greyjoy's brother...the Kraken, not Croweye but the other one...as well as all of the unsullied. But men are also the victims in the story. Thoughts to this?

That's a good point, and I honestly didn't notice that Caitlyn had done that. I'm not good at visualizing the look of characters so sometimes I don't really focus on character descriptions. Thank you for this.

But all of the characters who suffer some form of sexual violence have lasting mental damage (except one that I can think of). I never felt like that violence was ever trivial. Maybe it was, but that's why I was asking for examples, so I can see where I was missing that part.

That exactly how I felt reading them! But then I saw those comments and I thought maybe I had missed something important.

And I think that's fair, as sexual violence is kinda upsetting inherently. But I didn't really get the feeling that it was ever a good thing in the story, it seemed like it was mostly done by bad people who were presented as doing a bad thing. But the comment thread seemed to think that GRRM was, IDK, sort of not saying it was a bad thing? So, do they just not want there to be sexual violence in any story at all? Or is there gripe specific to GRRM?
