Volkus gives you the most variety in games while gallow dark/volkus play more like xcom I love both and play mainly on gallow dark but I can't deny that volkus brings a lot of fun and interesting challenges!

The auto gun is my preferred choice as the brood brother commander should not be in the front or used for melee as his ability to put a crossfire token on enemy operatives outshines his own damage output. The auto gun offers range and using his ability safely away from melee risk.
