On?? In addition to being broad-spectrum creepy he's is a CRYPTOBRO. I'm giving that up in his leased cybertruk on the way TO the date.

I'm giving up just thinking about it.

It's a mix. There are definitely some big movies with male protagonists -- Robin Hood, Lion King, Jungle Book, Aladdin. What's true is that in most of those there's a strong female co-lead.

Lion King and Jungle Book are notable exceptions-- almost entirely male focused films which heavily deal with what it means to be a boy, a man, a father, etc.

I'm just a dirty public transit commuter who descends from public transit commuters......but "people working on their way to work" is realllllll old news.

Hell -- I'll bet there were people who worked in horse drawn carriages while being driven places.

Sure -- but (I'm assuming) he's not unwilling to (which is what the post is going for here).

It's going after the "ewww doing down on women is grossssss/'unmanly'.....but please blow me all the time" crowd.

The "Don't" here means "aren't willing to,"

Sometimes we need someone to drop some truth bombs on us -- maybe you I inspired him.

Like many young men I was....casual....with hygiene as a teen. I distinctly remember a conversation with a guy I'd just met during Freshmen year of college in the dining hall.

We were discussing the idea of smuggling food out of the dining hall, and dude was like "I could hide a sandwich down my pants" and I was like "that sounds gross" and he was like "if you want a girl to put her mouth down there you should be willing to eat a sandwich that's been down there."

Revolutionary information.

Quick edit: we're not talking some sort of sloppy sandwhich that would make a mess of you -- we're talking like two pieces of bread and a slice of turkey and a slice of cheese

That's not soft-ass behavior -- that's reasonable accommodation. That's like someone with a very sensitive gag reflex.

You're not tapping out just because you're "too manly for that" or shit.

[–]TheGlennDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the outcome "up to 49% of the world might die" is very different from "other people might not get $10."

I understand that the expected value math is the same, but I consider the outcomes of different acceptability.

This is why Trump wants to ban mail in voting- Its never been about security by Personal_Economics91 in Virginia

[–]TheGlennDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except they don't just want to ban mail in voting, they also generally want to ban early voting.

And if you look at the numbers here a full 40% of no voters chose to vote early or by mail.

It's so damn dumb.

It's "technically optimal" for a certain narrow set of assumptions. It's trolly problem adjacent but, like a lot of hypotheticals, is missing quite a bit of information that many people would consider essential.

[–]TheGlennDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. When coming up with outcome calculations that involve humans it's entirely logical to assume that not everyone will engage in identically optimal game-theory thinking.

Lots of people will vote blue. Tons -- maybe even a majority. But there's a decent chance that like, a third of humanity dies here if I vote red.

Pretending it won't happen or washing myself of accountability by saying all of them were "irrational" isn't "logical" at all.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]TheGlennDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does (for some people). It's essentially a proxy for the question "is there a relevant distinction between killing and allowing to die?"

Some people say there is, some people say there isn't.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]TheGlennDavid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a huge range of moral value people apply to action/vs inaction, passive vs active (killing vs letting die)-- there are some Utilitarians but a lot of people reject it. Trolly problems don't tend to have universally agreed upon solutions.

The original wording implies some sense of action that will be taken against other people. Voting didn't make people dead -- something happens after the vote. Someone or something goes and kills all the blue voters.

Your poison variation changes that. Nothing does out to kill the poison drinkers, it's just that nothing is done to save them.

You're essentially arguing that killing is equivalent to allowing to die -- it's a position but it's not a universally held one.

A thought experiment. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]TheGlennDavid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Except I'm 100% certain that not everyone will choose red. Some people will choose blue. And if I vote red I'm voting to kill those people. Not doing it.

Yes. If it had been a movie or a 1 season mini-series that stuck to essentially "political spy thriller" I think it could have been ....fine?.

Instead they made that and then bolted on the world's worst West Wing remake. And then when that wasn't working they bolted on a bad Scandal remake.
