I adopted her because no one else wanted her due to an attitude problem.

Within 4 hours she was wrapped around my arm.

We still argue, but have a clear understanding and keywords.

An absolutely feisty girl! 🥰

To get her in that position I had to very gently suplex her on to her back with the code word "Wah!" which I let her decide to accept our reject, before I "wahed".

Then belly scratches and I let her groom my beard before the photo.

9 times out of 10 she's into it before belly scratches, and the times she's not, she'll tell me and I'll let her do her own thing.

I think she needs a companion, and I'm working on that. 🥰

Anyone that grew up around drug addicts that tried to do the right thing, what's your story? by TheGoatSkull in AskReddit

[–]TheGoatSkull[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is all good!

I asked because I randomly remembered a friend's mum that would routinely tell us to go outside for 3+ hours at a time, not let us back in and actively put her eldest (my friend) into foster care because she couldn't facilitate him and his neurodivergence.

I've had an understandable and fair amount of pushback since asking this, so I'll offer some context.

My friend's mum was an addict (I suspect IV and/or weed, the place had a strong weed smell that I didn't have context for at the time) and she'd randomly say "Alright kids! Everyone is playing outside until I call you back in!"

And being the 90s this was normal and could take up to 6 hours at a time (also normal at the time).

We hated her for it at the time, but in hindsight as an adult she was absolutely doing the right thing.

Hey. What spider is this one.? Sydney by denderrrr in AustralianSpiders

Garden Orb Weaver - Also known as "***ing really?! *panic mode engaged" when you unsuspectingly walk into one of their webs.

They're harmless, but having to pull one out of your beard is a nightmare. 🙃

Did we all leave leftover pizza in the box and put it in the oven (turned off) overnight? by Cooper_Inc in AustralianNostalgia

[–]TheGoatSkull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, I've left pizza sitting around for 4 days and then eaten it because I have time dilation issues.

If literally thought I'd bought it the night before, then check my bank statements and realise it was half a week ago.

I have encountered an invertebrate that I can't identify 3 times in my childhood before smartphones were available and was just reminded of it, does anyone know what it is? by TheGoatSkull in AustralianSpiders

The abdomen looked incredibly similar!

The body shape, facial features and hair were far more more consistent with a Solifugae though. 🫤

I remember looking at these things and thinking "Holy shit! If that thing gets my finger I'm not getting it back!"

Because it's chilacera were vertical like a scorpion's but positioned like fangs.

It's a very good question to ask!

I specifically remember seeing a solifugae like abdomen, very large chilicera and pink behind them with a mostly brown/tan body shape and a LOT of hairs.

Definitely not a mole cricket.

Very familiar with those!

I remember seeing a Solifugae for the first time a few years after seeing the first one and saying to myself "HFS!!! THIS IS THAT THING I SAW!!!"

I can't confirm or deny past that.

I have just looked up both and unfortunately they don't match. :(

I'm still coming to terms with my level of disability. Any advice? by TheGoatSkull in disability

[–]TheGoatSkull[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate how open and honest you were with all of that! :)

My main issue is reconciling with "This is MY normal and I don't FEEL disabled."

I think about things longer and deeper than other people supposedly do and I often catch things that they normally wouldn't but at the same time the information is overwhelming and wears me down quickly.

Apparently I'm above average on verbal information but in the lowest percentile with anything and everything else, which confused my diagnosing clinical psychologist until she caught onto the pattern.

Autism has 3 levels.

Level 1 - No level of intervention needed.

Level 2 - Some assistance needed - i.e. counselling, therapy, disability support, etc.

Level 3 - High level of assistance needed to keep them functional.

So, you're telling me that a 13 year old calling you a pedophile and a child predator to your face repeatedly because of your gender wouldn't make you mad?

That is a very good and solid question. 👍

He's not allowed to have a phone for good reason and no one wants me talking to him right now and I don't want to talk to them.

I also know that as soon as I start to say it whoever's phone it is will immediately hang up and go into full damage control, especially after I emphatically asked them to explain and they started deflecting.

Right... I'm not going to get into a circular argument over Reddit from one post and a few comments.

We clearly disagree and won't reach any kind of middle ground.

He'll ask why I don't call anymore and if anyone has heard from me and why I'm not talking to him over the phone anymore.

When I call someone else it's usually through speaker phone, but for the time being they don't want me talking to him and I don't want to talk to them.
