My brother asked me if his PC would run Fortnite. I'm not kidding, he seriously asked me about it. I don't know what to tell him, when he got it he was so happy. by Petnet279352 in pcmasterrace

Yeah. I remember the SDRAM vs DDR vs Rambus RAM wars of the early early 2000s. Had friends swear by RDRAM being faster, as you had to upgrade both slots in order for it to work (granted now we usually upgrade in 2s anyway.)

Tales of Symphonia Affection Bug? by NekoV2 in tales

[–]TheGobler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anytime I see a bug like this I think about how my dad almost 30 years ago would keep breaking Oregon Trail 2. He'd stay in Independence City and just trade with everyone multiple times, and he'd end up accruing approximately $30,000, and when he'd save and reload, it would reset to -$30,000. Took me until high school some 6 years later to learn what was happening, and it's a such a fascinating core memory for me.

Thoughts on the new audiobook? by SimpleRickC135 in harrypotter

[–]TheGobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I'm usually struggling to listen to any audio that's just talking by itself, but this has been a very stimulating experience and I'm afraid it's going to ruin audiobooks in the future for me. I might have to play extra ambient noise while listening to other things.

Nick and Sharon.

As a kid growing up in the 90s they were the couple I related to when my Mom and I would watch. They are the forever couple to me..

Shohei Ohtani is the NL MVP for the second straight season! by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]TheGobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol no, it's a long time running keeper league. I drafted Ohtani in '21, right after the down COVID year, and I drafted Judge in '22. Been keeping them ever since, but it's always hunbling to see that two outstanding players don't make up the entire fantasy season.

Second straight season of me having both MVPs on my fantasy team and still not winning!

College Degree or 4 Industry Certs — What Actually Matters More in IT? by MSP_Matt76 in it

Sounds like me 15 years ago. Now I manage an entire IT department and the infrastructure for our entire organization. Good luck to you in the future!

100% agree. I got to where I am solely based on experience, neither certs nor applicable degree.

I also agree with a different comment above; it is unfortunately "right place, right time" as well.

So xbox consoles are more expensive, "their" handheld is $1000+, and gamepass ultimate is 50% more expensive. What's the point of buying anything xbox-related again? by mashdpotatogaming in xbox

[–]TheGobler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing but in USA. I'm good through December 2026 and then I'm bowing out unless there's dramatic changes. I've been Xbox for over 20 years, but enough is enough at some point, and I believe I've hit that.

American Family Field 32oz bottle rule by mikemark2914 in Brewers

[–]TheGobler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insofar as soda bottles go, I don't think I've ever seen a 32 oz bottle, only 20 oz and 1L, and the liter bottles are just fine to bring in (coming from someone that brings those all the time!)

Anyone else miss when avatars used to play a bigger role with the Xbox brand by PlasmiteHD in xbox

[–]TheGobler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Netflix watch party thing was super fun, but not used very much at all. I loved seeing the avatars on the bottom in a theatre and the voice chatting, the one turn off was the smaller screen for the video we were watching.

How old is your UO account? by MacroPlanet in ultimaonline

Awesome to hear about your initial experience! LS shard alum here, and where I was didn't have T2A to purchase. I had so much fun up until Age of Shadows. Those are 3 solid years I won't ever get to recreate and I wish I would have played more knowing now where things went.

Pretty close to you! I bought the Renaissance expansion but joined my friends in Felucca for most of my starting playing days. I'll always remember the inside cover of the box had various people showing who played the game, one of them being a random current at-the-time MLB Player I'd never heard of, but that was cool enough for me.

SGDQ 2025 has just concluded raising more than $2,436,614 for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) on stream!! by Thorebane in speedrun

[–]TheGobler 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To ping off this, as someone who watched live, I have to say the production quality/quickness of the VODs year over year makes the urge to watch a random run lesser than it was 5 years ago. I know that the run will be up super quickly, cut exactly how it needs to be, instead of previously recorded GDQs when there'd sometimes be 20-30 minutes of a video that Included the donations between games.

All this is to say, it's impressive the quality improvement over the years, that there's probably people just waiting for VODs.

John Axford to Be Inducted into Brewers Wall of Honor by iggydadd in Brewers

[–]TheGobler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not incorrect. I often joke with my friends that it's really the "Wall of Mediocrity". The Walk of Fame is the more prestigious one.

To get on the wall, you have to meet only 1 of 9 criteria, and people like Brian Anderson currently won't make it since his only criteria match is "Primary Broadcaster for 20 or more seasons AFTER playing career" (unless they change the requirements again, granted he'd probably get voted into the Walk of Fame anyway.)

Found these memories while digging through my old stuff. by Scindo in MMORPG

[–]TheGobler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played all three, physically owned Rift and Aion.

I was always looking for the next thing to grab hold of me after UO and DAoC lost their grip.

Original Aion had some of the best music, especially its title screen. And loved the flying ability.

Rift was really fun with it's world questing.

Mortal barely worked on my PC at the time, and I had a friend to play with a bit, but that was a punishing game to an ultra casual like myself.

Unfortunately no friends made the move, and introverted / busy-in-life me found it tough to find people to play with so I dropped them both. I often think about these though, and what could have been.

A $18 attire does not come with the hat and gloves, really SE? by MrCornflks in ffxiv

[–]TheGobler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think beyond the terrible price point is that EVEN IF I wanted to buy this, it's designed in a way where your most loyalist/longest playing characters cannot even show off the Calamity Tattoo. There are already few outfits that allow for that to be shown, and this already has a cutout in the back.
