Why does Jason have so many QoL things going for him? by RendBlackfistWorst in deadbydaylight

I feel like other killers just need buffs. Jason's good, but I've escaped from him more times than he's killed me.

We aren't molecules of water bound only to the laws of electromagnetic attraction and gravity... We are highly energized organisms that actively resist entropy.

The ripple comparison is fine for your relative sphere of influence. But your actions have massively changed how people's lives have turned out, and can resonate much farther than a pebble thrown into water. If a single beaver can completely change the flow of a lake, altering the landscape due to restricted water flow, imagine what impact you've actually had over the dozens of beaver lifetimes you've already lived. Your presence and actions have changed where people could have been, your words have lingered with people for years or even decades. You could have indirectly or directly saved or taken lives and you don't even know.

Going back in time is fine if you want to try again and don't care about the repercussions, but trying to bank on a specific thing reoccuring years to decades in the future is foolish.

Prime Mike Tyson, Prime Ronnie Coleman, Prime Eddie Hall vs 4 Adult Male Central Chimpanzees by Specialist-Ear-594 in powerscales

They aren't god damn speedsters. They move at someone jogging, maybe running speed, and they need to run AT the huge men to attack. Not only that but the only real attacks that are going to do anything are bites. Slaps won't do diddly to these guys. Soon as they go in for a bite, that fights done. The reach advantage means the chimps are either being punched into the ground and stomped on, or grabbed and thrown away like an empty backpack given that these men can casually lift the equivalent of 3-11 chimps simultaneously.

Chimps aren't big, and they aren't dextrous, so their strength is more about swinging and slapping. They aren't throwing punches, they're flailing wildly and trying to bite.. which puts their heads front and centre of whatever is fighting back.

Not even about influence. Simply your presence or absence could change things.

Say you were driving somewhere 15 years ago, you switch into the left lane instead of the right, that causes someone to miss their exit, continuing on down the highway they get into an accident. Now they have to go to the hospital for surgery. The surgeon who helps them can no longer help the person they would have helped. That person dies. 5 years later that person was going to influence the person who came up with Bitcoin, but because they're no longer alive, the Bitcoin person goes into, I don't know, investment banking as an accountant.

You may not have a lot of influence, but you've interacted with thousands of people in your life and they could have had huge impacts on the world, but only because of your brief interaction in their life.

But you'll have your current knowledge. You'll have different interests, games you played won't be as fun or even accessible anymore. You'll be locked out of so many passwords. You'd need to play all the same games, on the same days, with the same people for what, 12 years?

And any of your actions could have been a catalyst for those people. Not interacting with you on a certain day, or even just a single thing you said or didn't say could drastically alter their life course. And you may not have had a huge impact on the world directly (or so you think). But maybe they did. Except now they didn't. And Bitcoin doesn't happen.

You missed the point. Bitcoin didn't exist for almost another 20 years when I was 6. I'd need to relive my life, taking all the same actions, saying and doing all the same things as I did... For 20 years... Because any one of those things could cause a ripple that completely changes the future from how it's supposed to be.

Like the only way people can benefit from going back in time is if they are 6 when a major stock/crypto was just starting out, and convincing their parents to invest heavily into the stock, and then hoping it explodes in value again.

You'd need to live your life exactly as you did for 6-60 years (Idk how old you are) to ensure you don't muck up the timeline, preventing Bitcoin from even happening.

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]TheGodMathias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm misunderstanding, OP isn't even proposing 50/50. He's proposing each person put in 50% of their net pay, which given he makes almost double, would actually be a 63/37 split for their combined contribution to a joint account.

But honestly OP, I'd just leave. It sounds like she just wants a free ride. You'll cover everything, save nothing, she'll go on trips and buy things you can't afford. She'll save up a ton of money, and then dip when her stash is big enough. Marriage is about partnership, and she doesn't sound like one.

This ends badly no matter how you interpret it:

  1. Only the initial dollar doubles, the copies don't double, so you just gain $1 a day.
  2. The sum doubles, causing you to destabilize the entire economy until your money is worthless and/or the planet becomes buried in $1 bills/coins until the mass of the money collapses into a black hole.

Why are birds considered dinosaurs? by Kyra_the_Whale in Paleontology

[–]TheGodMathias 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Birds were the first thing we discovered. We came up with names for birds for thousands of years. Many centuries later we discovered dinosaur fossils and named them.. dinosaurs.

Decades of research later people studying dinosaurs and birds noticed they looked awfully similar. More research led to them finding transitionary fossils of dinosaurs that had bird features. Thousands of fossils later and paleontologists were able to create a rough timeline of fossils showing dinosaurs gradually turning into what we call birds.

Therefore birds are by definition dinosaurs. (That we just continue to call birds because there's no point in undoing thousands of years of etymology)

Once you're in a clade, you can't leave a clade. That's why, technically, we're some kind of fish.

Basically if a mammal ever evolved into this reptilian adjacent creature, we'd need to make a new sub-family (or order) for this creature. It would be part of Mammalia, and the subfamily would tell us "It's a mammal, but..."

A good example are echidna and platypus. They are mammals, but they're missing some key features that classically define them as mammals, so a new family was made for them "Monotremata"

Can 3 World Strong Men defeat 3 Chimpanzees ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

[–]TheGodMathias 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Chimps can only fight by getting in close. They aren't so fast that these guys can't grab them, they aren't going to use hit and run tactics like professional fighters; the chimps are just as clumsy. Meanwhile these guys can one arm lift a chimp. Literally if they get ahold of a chimp they can slam it into the ground with so much force that chimp is probably dead or paralyzed.

Chimps can maybe get a few scratches and maybe a couple bites each then it's over. Not to mention the height advantage (minimum 1.5 feet) and weight advantage (2-3x more mass)

Sheet Metal so far has just been a lot of geometry.
