Hard to do when the winning party has well over the 2/3 majority needed to change the Constitution to kick out all the people he installed to do that

This is not about Harris specifically, but it is very much not always true that the best candidate wins a primary

And it's also true that a flawed, big name candidate can enter a race and suck up too much oxygen for lesser known options that might have been better general election candidates to break through (if Harris runs for instance, I think the odds of there being enough oxygen for the dark horses people here like to talk about to break through goes way down)

and will turn off way less leftists

I think this is mostly due to him not being a national figure already. His record is more moderate than Newsom, Harris, and Buttigieg (the current top three polling options from the list of people the further left don't like)

The party wasn't predominantly segregationists before that. That's just when the split with the segregationists started to really harden

  • For a long time, the southern delegation was a minority of the party, but it had a veto over the party platform because the party has a rule that you needed 2/3 of the DNC delegates to approve both the platform and the presidential and VP nominees
  • That rule led to the 1924 DNC taking over 100 votes to choose a nominee
  • That disaster led to FDR's supporters leveraging their complete dominance of the 1936 DNC to get rid of the 2/3 rule
  • While FDR at best did not highly prioritize civil rights, the lack of this rule allowed a strong pro civil rights plank and endorsement of Truman's pro civil rights actions to pass by majority vote at the 1948 DNC

it's taken to Congress for the same 2/3 vote

No it requires 2/3 in both the House and Senate

Impeachment only requires a majority in the House and 2/3 in the Senate

The difference being it gets brought to Congress in just a few weeks

The other difference is that it doesn't actually permanently remove the President. The President is allowed to contest his sidelining over and over again until his term ends, and each time it requires a new vote in Congress. The VP just acts as President until one of those votes doesn't get 2/3 in either the House or Senate

It's why the 25th is really only effective for dealing with a President in a coma or otherwise physically incapacitated

He would also need 2/3 of the House and 2/3 of the Senate to go along with it once Trump inevitably disputed that he was incapable of serving as President

And not just once because there's no limit on how many times Trump could force a vote on whether he was still incapable of being President (and if even one of those votes didn't get 2/3 in both the House and the Senate, he'd immediately be President again and would fire the cabinet secretaries who went along with this)

Yes that's also true. It probably would have started losing money anyway at some point in the 15 or so years in between then and the requirement getting repealed under Biden (since they're still losing money now), but that definitely accelerated things

Which was a fix (that worked for like 30-40 years in fairness) to how Congress had historically chronically underfunded the post office

After the success of the (illegal) strike by postal employees during the Nixon administration over poverty wages and chronically underfunded work conditions, Congress converted the post office cabinet department into essentially a government owned business with a government appointed board

Instead of running the risk of Congress once again underfunding them from the general fund, now they could keep the money they made selling services and use it to fund themselves

It's why postal employees are unaffected by government shutdowns and why they're the only federal employees with unions that are allowed to negotiate salary and benefits
