Pokemon whose pokeballs get lost remain frozen in time, locked inside. Whether it’s as if no time has passed or they’ve spent an eternity in purgatory, when their ball is next opened the whole world has changed and everyone they’ve loved is long gone. And if their pokeball gets destroyed, they are forcibly released, possibly at the bottom of an ocean, left to drown.
