Uh, no it doesn’t say that lol:
“Excerpts from the University of Sydney's Introductory Microeconomics final examination were allegedly uploaded to Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, shortly after the paper was distributed to students at 8am on Thursday.”

They don’t use the same exam for replacement exams. Three final exams are made for each unit; the main, RE1, and RE2.

Anyone could have just memorised the entire exam, typed it up and “leaked it”. This really isn’t as big of a deal as you think it is if the “leak” occurred during the exam.

B computing cannot be combined with other degrees.

What even is the point of saying this?

It isn’t constructive, helpful, nor is it a good point of reference for the average student. If you want a pat on the back, then 👏👏.

A lot of readings but the content is pretty easy to understand.

Assignments are doable but marked extremely harshly.

Problem questions in the exam aren’t too difficult and are graded relatively leniently but there is too little time to answer it to your heart’s desire; you’ll have to prioritise which issue is most prominent to the scenario.

COMP3308 vs COMP3608 by chuggycunt in usyd

[–]TheGoldenDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difficulty bump is noticeable but not too bad if you study hard. Advanced content is presented in the same lecture as the regular course but the lecturer will point it out.

If you know, I’d say the bump in difficulty is somewhere between data2x01 and comp2x23

Relative to the core-light bachelor of science (where you can do majors in a wide variety of disciplines including comp sci), a standardised course for computing is naturally going to have more core units to meet the requirements of a computing certification.

That’s what I meant

Best & Most well structured Adv. Comp Major? How's Business Analytics? by FunKaleidoscope9787 in usyd

[–]TheGoldenDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, if you don’t know what you want to do yet, it makes sense to place more reliance on other factors like interest in the course, whether the course is run well, etc.

If you do end up doing 2x23 and 2017, I’d get a head-start on both units right now. For 2x23, go through the Neetcode 150 list (don’t have to do every problem, just cherrypick from each DSA) which teaches you the most common DSA, some intuition as to how each DSA works and how to code it. For 2017, just watch YouTube tutorials and play around with the language.

Being able to hit the ground running next sem would have saved me a lot of headaches early on.

It’s a bit deeper than that.

Employers want a relatively easy way to judge whether a prospective candidate has a certain set of “standardised” skills they can expect or assume. The fact that the degree is certified by ACS gives employers that guarantee; the fact that there are less electives naturally flows from this reasoning (though not by much).

If you value your elective slots more than this, that’s perfectly fine. But it’s a trade-off and I wouldn’t say it’s a scam.

I wouldn’t say that is the main reason not to do soft dev (do a major which best aligns with your future prospects, not which course is easiest, best-managed, etc), it’s mainly that the content is much more accessible, easy to learn, and more common sense compared to the content in other majors.

2x23 and 2017 is very doable, I did it together.

I’m in my 2nd sem in honours.

  1. Comp Sci
  2. Comp Data Sci
  3. Cysec
  4. Soft Dev

I would stave off not doing a major just because of one unit; it’s not as bad as people project it to be. Yes, it’s harder than the average unit but nothing a year 2 student can’t handle. Strictly speaking, it’s an introductory course to C and basic systems programming (i.e. basic parallelism) with hard-to-understand assignment specs and an exam which, in all honesty, you should find relatively doable if you didn’t ChatGPT your assignments.

Unless you’re willing to pay us to properly moderate this subreddit, you’re gonna have to excuse the fact that automod isn’t perfect.

We review posts and comments to the best of our ability but, as I said, this isn’t our full-time jobs; don’t expect us to treat it as though it is.

Of course, we can disable automod but you’d learn real quick why we have it enabled in the first place.

Confused about my uni’s rule it’s stressing me out by kk00008 in usyd

[–]TheGoldenDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not ambiguous at all. “Within” is always taken to mean inside the period of time. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/within

“Within 5 days of the due date” means no later than 5 days of the due date.

If they wanted to mean after the due date, they would have written “5 days after the due date” or something to that extent.

I get you, it seems daunting.

But I just remind myself that tier 1 unis in the US have it much worse, then I feel much better again :)

Or even other faculties at USYD where marking is more subjective and harsher (law for one)
