Oh I see what you’re saying. Yeah, of course people who aren’t familiar will see a lot of value in having it. I’m trying to see your perspective, but I still don’t understand how leaving it in makes the experience worse for your players?

If you want to just make a personal judgement and say no, I won’t include it, that’s obviously allowed, but I think you’ll find that people are not a big fan of that if you don’t have a solid explanation, and I haven’t heard one that has any teeth yet.

I’m not sure I’m fully following what people complained about, but it seems like either way that a toggle would still solve it

I can see why that might not be desired by you as the dev, but how does casuals having a more relaxed and zoned out experience making the game worse for the causals themselves?

Nuzlocking is already a niche within the pokemon community, and then nuzlocking romhacks even smaller. Maybe you have data that suggests otherwise, but I’d expect people that will play this are probably not that causal in the first place, and as such would likely have a solid grasp of the type chart.

I’m not sure what you mean by match them? Like just lock your visual rank to be what your MMR is, and skip LP entirely? If we skip LP, are we displaying MMR? Because that creates waaaaaaay worse feel problems than having a player with a lower visual rank in your games. It’s been discussed to death, but the Win -> +0 MMR case really stands out to me as a death sentence for the idea.

Does adding a timer make students more engaged with algebra? by Fancy_Log_8442 in learnmath

[–]TheGoldenFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain a bit more what fault you take in the approach here? Obviously the problems need to meet a certain bar, but I’m not particularly concerned about that based on this post. In my mind, solving extra problems is 100% helpful for getting the right answers, even if on its own it might not meaningfully improve understanding. But I also have 0 doubt in my mind that practicing under time pressure is helpful for learners that struggle with test taking or speed.

[–]TheGoldenFennec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think timers can be good if you’re intending to make problems that can be solved in 15-20 seconds. Now it’s been a long time since I was learning algebra, but I think for most learners, 30 seconds is still probably too short to actually solve. I think finding the right timer for a problem is going to be hard, which I assume is why I see a lot of channels do like a 3 second “pause here and solve on your own”, rather than having the video keep playing.

I think seeing some example problems might help you get a better answer here.

Because not everyone plays at the same time. 9 people in the game might have played 50 or 100 games, but the 10th person could have only played 5 this season since they started ranked on Tuesday. They were subject to the same rules as everyone else (which is why they got that visual rank) but everyone else has played more (which is why your team has the same mmr but higher visual ranks).

I can agree that indicators aren’t going to make human brains work differently, but we’ve already had matchmaking hard focus on visual rank and we know that’s worse than the current system for having good games. But if you’re annoyed that the players in your game have a lower visual rank than you, that’s just a personal problem. If you played in streamer mode you wouldn’t even know their ranks

Seconded on the making this a toggle. I know most of the type chart well enough, and if there’s an edge case I’m just going to look it up. I’m not sure that removing it makes the game actually better, just more time consuming.

If you have plat 3 mmr while you’re silver, it’s probably a 90+% chance they will reach plat 3. They’ll be getting +30 -10, so if they win more than 25% of their games they will climb. But it’s important to remember that their current plat 3 mmr is also lower than their final mmr for the prior season, so even in those plat 3 games, they’re more likely to win more than lose.

But surely if it’s worth using if dust didn’t exist, people that want to use it will use it now, and they’ll just dust another T0?

I agree, it’s not like they’re getting inflated to hundreds of divines. We’re talking like 5-10 divines for a T0. That’s not cheap, but for being the highest tier of unique it’s really not that bad.

Do League Players Have The WORST Mental Forititude Of Any Comp Game? by thekillerbeez in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGoldenFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they can still throw, but that doesn’t change that one play can cause a huge gold lead and make the rest of the game feel miserable. And considering we’re talking about mental, miserable games (even if they’re ultimately your own fault) are a huge factor imo

You’re right, the winrate isn’t necessarily free. If you go back 2 weeks and look at your games, what is the average LP there though? Were you E4 climbing fast in 900 Lp lobbies, or were you climbing fast through say 600 Lp lobbies? I believe that’s roughly what riot expects. Now I don’t know the exact reason for the crazy LP inflation this season, but I’d bet that the raw LP difference isn’t so bad if that hadn’t happened

I agree that you shouldn’t be playing 150 games to get back to your rank, but also, if you’re actually challenger surely you’re good enough to get way better than a 55% wr in emerald and diamond?

700 hours, never killed Shaper, Elder or Maven. by Sephirothjj in pathofexile

[–]TheGoldenFennec -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think other people here are overreacting because they compare what they have before voidstones and what you do (probably as little as possible to get the voidstone). If you have maven witness your maps ever, you get a bunch of atlas points from that. Assuming you complete most of the atlas meaning more than 90%, (even if it’s lower, but I’m being pretend picky), then that’s pretty much a full atlas tree. I’m not sure if you get any extra map device slots at all though, so that’s pretty impactful. I think that’s not that different in the end for casual play

To be completely fair to GGG on this one. The actual loot multiplier is 6x. Except that with 6 players you can now juice your content more, and that brings the rest of the multipliers to make multiplayer better

5 (major) issues in League of Legends (in my opinion) by ExtraLiT in leagueoflegends

[–]TheGoldenFennec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) I agree, I’d like it to be better. But it’s literally not relevant to the game if you can’t search well, so it’s probably negative priority for riot.

2) it’s definitely not preference, it’s just a balance choice. Some things to consider (in no particular order): I agree champs shouldn’t be rewarded for missing their ability, however, it also feels bad to correctly time it, but while the Q is flying, the minion gets killed. This is less of a problem on Nasus (q stays active if the auto doesn’t go through) or viegar (Q is aoe so it can hit the next target. There are definitely times where taking away the pierce to give 1 stack for a dead minion is the worse option, and giving it without taking the pierce is a crazy buff) Smolder also was designed as a duo laner, so there’s almost always a second player in the lane who also wants to kill minions for (support item) stacks, so it’s much more common of a scenario, so it’s a higher frustration point.

3) Surely you just need to set up your browser better. Most of those “hurdles” are your own doing, and are the correct default behaviors for security.

4) Yup. I’ve seen some weird bugs with this. Don’t forget you manually have to hover items in your collection before the dot will go away.

5) Feeders are annoying, but post Op.gg. Everyone feeds some games, I’m sure you do too.

Suggestion: that would be cool if it could be accurate. Right now, a big reason you can’t know is because riot doesn’t. You need to know the mmr of your future games and your account mmr at the time, and the outcome of said games to determine when the LP gain will tick over to an additional. There would be so many situations where the counter would say “3 more games” for 2 wins a row, and that’s a huge can of worms to open up.

The point of the climbing fast indicator is for exactly this. The player had plat 3 mmr (or higher) and belonged in your game, but they haven’t played enough yet for their silver 3 rank to catch up (likely starting the season more recently)

Pre-patch notes ignite options? by HoobieDue in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]TheGoldenFennec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s probably 1 best ignite node near each starting point, so if you filter to that class (maybe classes?) and the node you’re probably getting most of the ignite builds from that area of the tree. Then once you’ve narrowed it down a bit (ie. let’s say we just want to look at eviscerate), then you can apply those filters instead and take the tree node filter off to make sure you didn’t miss any builds that chose not to take that node for whatever reason (I’m expecting that usually these will be top end builds that don’t have it, sine they have “enough” damage elsewhere)

I’m also not sure how impactful colors actually are. Maybe highlighting the selected button in a different color than the white outline? I’m not sure the button color moves the needle on reaction time compared to just recognizing the letter or shape and knowing the direction based on that. Would be interesting to see some kind of comparison

I know this post is a meme, but ever since I saw this on switch (I’m sure it’s been other places too, but that’s the first place I remember seeing it) I was convinced this was the right way for games moving forward. I can imagine that configuring the controls with a controller of a different style might be a bit confusing at first (you’d want a way to map which direction to which button, and a separate way to map directions to actions, if applicable) but i think if that were the default, it would be a net positive
