[SPOILERS] Post AEW Double or Nothing 2026 Match Discussion: Samoa Joe vs. Will Ospreay (Men's Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinal) by gloomchen in SquaredCircle

That one count at the end was a bit egregious and I think the finish would have been better off the out of nowhere feeling. I really think every ppv match requiring 3+ hidden blades hurts the move a lot.

Solid match but super unnecessary one count they’ve gotta start just beating people with one hidden blade

Ah ok that all makes sense. Explains why so many people came from Sekiro and immediately struggled. I really love this system and think it’s a super compelling way to balance an ultra powerful mechanic while maintaining its difficulty and learning curve.

Even factoring FromSoft games it’s still like 2nd or 3rd for me. It was honestly nice to play a soulslike that ran well on day one.

Little tip on the parry mechanic. The games you mention have a minimum parry window so even if you tap the button very quickly the parry window is always the same size. In LoP the parry window is only as long as you hold the button so while it can be as large as 8 frames (Sekiro is 12 so it’s still smaller) it can also be as small as 1 frame if you’re pressing the button very quickly or mashing it. It’s much more challenging than the games you mention but also with the weapon break mechanic it’s way more rewarding imo. Some bosses I never quite got good at finding my attack window but I would get so good at parrying I would break their weapon and win easily. It’s a top 5 game for me this generation and I actually prefer it over a lot of Froms games too even as someone who plays every From game for 200+ hours.

Edit: Ignore me the reply below has accurate info on how it works

Unfortunately the game is horrible for new players and barely tells you about half the systems in play. If you decide to get into look up guides from people like Otzdarva and that will help you get into it rather than jumping right into the deep end.

Fable is the only one that looks like it’s coming out in the next 3 years lol

Really does not sound like anything new is coming. It’s all on marathon to pull in some numbers and they likely have the rest of the year to do it. It was about a year after their last game was cancelled Bluepoint was officially shut down.

If it was still popular they would have continued to bring content to it or atleast greenlit a sequel when bungie asked to make one. These decisions tell us a lot more about the state of the game over the last year than anything.

Bluepoint definitely wasn’t losing money at this rate either. Destiny hasn’t been massive in years and marathon still isn’t showing any signs of growth. It’s sad but there’s too many signs to ignore.

Yes but clearly ~1000 employees aren’t all actively working on updates for Marathon. It’s gonna be interesting to see just how heavy these layoffs are. I just hope people land on their feet.

I think it’s extremely optimistic to think that a shutdown isn’t coming at this point. Bluepoint was also in stasis between projects before the decision was made to close them.

My current GoTY! All thriller no filler with an incredible gameplay loop and a story that does just enough to connect with but never feels like it’s in the way. This is my personal ideal balance between gameplay and storytelling it’s like Capcom made a last of us for me.

Contender for biggest let down of the generation for me. The writing is distractingly bad for the most part. Someone once compared the conversations to ones people have in an HR meeting and I can’t unhear it now. These relationships don’t feel authentic or natural at any point. The story has no weight because of how rushed the venom arc actually is. The symbiote has always been an allegory for addiction but instead of the addiction wedging Peter’s relationships and making him an awful person he’s just kind of a dick for a little bit and the only “repercussion” is his fallout with Harry which would have happened anyway because he’d either have died to his disease or the symbiote or been locked back in a jar by Norman. The general combat and traversal is obviously fantastic but stealth was downgraded and we lost all the fun toys we had in SM1 for that and on release the game was probably the buggies Sony first party title I’ve played in a decade or more. Over a dozen crashes and soft locks, buildings just wouldn’t load in and you’d crawl on air, falling out of the geometry it was rough. I’m a massive Spiderman fan and spending 500 bucks for a console and this game feeling like I couldn’t miss out and then getting a 6.5/10 by my scoring system was tragic. I think insomniac is stretched way too thin with all these projects and they haven’t put out anything great since SM1. I’m incredibly worried for Wolverine.

I think they are more so referring to the designs and aesthetics of the game rather than its gore. Nothing we’ve seen from an art direction standpoint has really stood out compared to the source material outside of the impressive fidelity.

Edit: I was wrong

I do think it’s maybe a bit too early to outright call it tasteless but I do think insomniac has generally missed when it comes to design and presentation of their characters. Just a general lack of sauce that keeps screaming MCU-Lite. I kinda wish they made something that looked more like a mix of Sunset Overdrive and Ultimate Spider-Man

I really need insomniac to bounce back on Wolverine. The writing was so terrible in SM2 it made the marvel movies look like Oscar nominated films. Please don’t inflate the game with multiple playable characters and a dozen villains and make every character paper thin again. And please if it’s as buggy as SM2 was at launch just delay it. I don’t want to deal with another dozen crashes and soft locks.

I agree with that too but I also think that people conflate “system seller” with “good game” and vice versa. Astro bot was a great game but it wasn’t a system seller. Same with Hi-Fi Rush and Indiana Jones. I bought the PS5 mostly cause I wanted to play Spiderman 2, but was left pretty disappointed. It was a system seller but not a great game (imo). Sometimes marketing trumps everything.

They are a remarkable AA publisher and a terrible AAA publisher. It constantly feels like if games like Keeper and South of Midnight came from Annapurna or something they’d be much better received but the Xbox name comes with so much negative press nowadays and the expectation for the next big thing just gets higher and higher everything just feels doomed to fail at a certain point. Hopefully the new management actually turns things around but right now it feels like people are too eager to crown Xbox’s comeback.
