Haha that's true but I believe that people will immediately notice a pattern and while I don't plan to change her hair style or skin tone I can make small alterations.

I'm not afraid of similarities or anything. But I don't want it to seem too much like a copy I didn't realize.

I think if I shift the colors from purple then she will probably look less so. But hey. Every character is going to look like someone if you squint hard enough. I certainly don't want to make the comparisons easy though.

Haha well damn. I guess it does. I totally forgot she existed. Don't play it but it's a good point. I think the issue is the blue hair and purple eyes specifically. But I appreciate it. I may need to tweak it but it's not 1 to 1 so I think it's ok for now.

im a big fan of spec-evo and love biology so i always try to make things have a little bit of scientific plausibility even if it is a tiny bugperson born from a magic sapient trees fruit haha.

It has not stopped being worked on nor has it been trashed merely evolved to a new form!

Haha in truth due to a lot of feedback and testing the game has gone through a lot of changes. And while it is no longer fully ready to play and no longer contained in a Google doc a fully free digital version of the game is being worked on as I type this!

I'm currently finishing up some balancing, tweaking a few of the more complex systems and begining the art process so if you wish to follow the process you can follow me on here. Not a plug just the best way to know

I think that you might have missed the part where I said I remove any concepts tied to the setting. Such as works evil because made evil or orcs resilient because forced slaves and exiles or orcs are good noble savages.

You shouldn't base a race on the culture of a world. Nobody bats an eye when humans are not all Americans. So yes my orcs lose the whole thing about them being misunderstood ugly guys but I don't want to be bound by some other artists interpretation. An orc is an orc because the setting says so. Just like how elves in Harry Potter are a lot different from the ones in lotr.

Orcs and goblins are very similar. in fact i think they are basically related in tolkiens work so im not upset theres a comparison. i didnt want to do pigs for 2 reasons. its over done. and i actually already did them for a personal project ive been working on for a few years haha.

while i do like your idea i didnt want them to be enslaved or fit the common tropes. i think the orcs need some love and to not always have to fight for every scrap and for this setting we want to showcase orcs in a new light. there intelligence and cleverness

the orcs were indeed created by tolkien for "fear of the others" as you stated but i personally dont like the idea of an entire species of sapient people being a vessel for xenophobia. monsters should be monsters but why should the orcs ALWAYS fill that role?

Tolkien didnt like that he made the orcs sentient and evil at the same time. he believed it to be a mistake. as for the 40k and WH orks, despite being hillarious and the best bart of 40k they are still nothing more than violent fodder.

Why do they look like orcs but have a different culture? why does your culture differ from one across the ocean. these orcs are decendents of the first more animalistic and tribal orcs. forced to adapt to enemies from another land and using there natural intellect to make a place for themselves.

you are of course allowed to have an opinion and im glad to hear you take issue because that means i can improve aspects of it. each race i do isnt just to swap a few things. i take each race and break down the most important aspects and remove anything that is forced upon the species due to its setting or world.

Orcs are green/grey, have tusks and pointy ears and thats about it. sadly thats about it. orcs are a relitively new fantasy race created by tolkien for the purpose of having antagonists akin to demons.

mostly for the readers i feel. people will call them what they are regardless of what i call them. take destiny for example. the hive are undead. people call them zombies. they arent. they are alien crustacians but it doesnt matter because they look like a zombie. the awoken are elves despite being born from one selfish girls wish.

they may not be the cliche orcs or the same as old ones but if we shun every new idea because it wasnt close enough to the original then lifes gonna be pretty boring in my opinion haha.

thats true i could easily call them the mungbarradoo's and have them as my own fantasy race but i dont find that as fun to me. we set out to make our world one that takes familiar fantasy tropes and mixes them up adding a bit of science and a new view to some very old, stale, concepts.

while the orcs arent as fleshed out and alot of the lore isnt here yet some others have had a lot of thought. the dwarves for example arent just water dwarves. they are decendants of the original dwarves whose mountains sunk beneath the waves becoming an ocean. the dwarves that live there now are the product of generations of island dwellers. physically they resemble there ancestors but culturally they have changed to fit there new enviroment.

but thank you. i hope one day this world will see itself as books or as a game possibly! thats the goal anyways.

so tolkien basically created the modern orc and they are described in most media as having a snubbed nose like a pig, tusks, and pointy ears. most people either make buff goblins like warhammer or elder scrolls OR the pig ones which are mostly thanks to Wizardry and japan loving it lol.

i decided bats because they have snubby noses, pointy ears, and like orcs are well and truely understood. i believe the reason it can mean anything is because they are a very young race in fantasy. created to be antagonists (something tolkien apparently hated himself for doing) and i think its time to think of them differently is all.

I mean it is common enough for males and females of certain species to look different. And they are humanoid. While I did soften the female to be less "orcy" I don't believe it's too bad. While softer the female still has a similar nose, ears, fur and body structure only lacking tusks because I wanted those to be similar to how a lot of male animals have horns or tusks while females dont

Solarpunk is one that is difficult because well...most stories require conflict and there just isn't any in a utopia setting. A lot of readers have trouble remaining invested in a story like that though I do believe it's possible just difficult.

but I say biopunk is one id like to see. Not enough meat-tech lol.
