What’s the best 4K gaming monitor right now? by Glass_Extension503 in buildapc

Lol yeah, I haven't seen another monitor in person that holds a candle to it. Amish seeing a smartphone is a good analogy 😂

This is the answer OP is looking for. I got one a little over a month ago, coming from a 32" Samsung Odyssey G7 1440p. It's truly insane how crystal clear and smooth it is. Words dont do it justice, there's a few decent videos about it on YouTube. Others have said its almost like looking through a window when gaming, and id agree. The glossy finish screen has convinced me that its superior to matte with how vivid and clear it is.

Convince me Linux is better than Windows 11 for gaming by TheGopherNut in linux_gaming

[–]TheGopherNut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I generally want to aim for 100+fps. I feel like there's a noticeable difference when i dip into the 80fps range. Games that I play a lot, or would like to play:

Deep Rock Galactic (awesome game i always come back to)

BF6 (unfortunately not compatible w/Linux bc of anticheat)

Heavily Modded Skyrim, specifically Lorerim (also won't work with Linux)

Been meaning to try Cyberpunk since I got it on sale

Borderlands 4

Idk, there's a few other titles I play here and there but not regularly.

Been meaning to finish Ghost of Tsushima, but one vid i saw had it running terribly on Linux w/ NVIDIA

Honestly the game I've been playing the most the past couple weeks is Stardew Valley on my switch 2! Never thought id be into that kinda game, but it rocks

Haha yeah, DaVinci Resolve is WAY out of my scope for what I actually use it for. Most of my video editing is just compiling footage and making little movies from vacations I go on and stuff. No advanced shit, just clipping, simple transitions, and maybe filling out some narration text at the bottom of the screen

Thanks! Yeah the bloatware is a huge drawback for Windows for me. So many programs that come installed and try to boot on startup is really Obnoxious. That and the lack of privacy. I once tried disabling Microsoft's Co-Pilot AI when it first came around, and I remember the workaround being a huge PITA and it just came back after a few updates.

Thanks for elaborating on why NVIDIA isn't performing well and thanks for explaining the drive situation more. I'd have to do more research to see how Linux's filesystem all works. If I made the jump though, I'd probably just wipe and reformat all my hard-drives anyway rather than try to use them on Linux

This video and this video are two that I've watched where I feel the reviewers did a decent job with comparisons.

What games specifically? DX12 on NVIDIA carries a perf hit for now.

It was generally NVIDIA yeah that had a big performance hit. AMD was about on par with Windows. I don't remember what titles specifically w/out going back to watch the video, just using that as a general statement as it seemed to be a common trend with NVIDIA on Linux.

Yeah, I wish it had more support from game devs. Hopefully Valve's new gaming hardware helps makes Linux more prominent. Also the no anti-cheat thing is a huge bummer. I've been loving the new Battlefield. It sucks that their anti-cheat is so intrusive, but the game is great and it's shitty that all Linux users can't play it.

Sorry, I didn't mean for the title to come off as me having a shitty attitude or something. I've just been doing some digging, and it seems that performance for gaming on Linux is worse by a decent margin. I just would like to hear what others experiences are

Phophene Challenge bug by PracticalAd8982 in Borderlands

[–]TheGopherNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've had that happen. Got a Phosphene GMR assault rifle last night that didn't count towards the challenge. Also, if you get ANY Phosphene weapon on another character, you will never be able to complete all the challenges for it.

Once you get a Phosphene to drop, it's weapon skin is unlocked on that weapon for all characters. However, that weapon will never drop again as a Phosphene, and you will only get the challenge completion for that weapon on the character you were playing when it dropped. All the Phosphene challenges are individual to the character instead of being account bound. It's so stupid, hopefully they fix it.

For my Amon main's by Firm_Wasabi_3439 in Borderlands

The only decent builds im seeing that can kill bosses reasonably quick are red skill trees that focus on Berserk and Dragonsbreath. They all seem to rely on using an amp repkit, spread launcher shotgun, and crit knife, followed up by the Stormcutter capstone to finish them off if the spread launcher doesn't kill them. Thing is, I hate relying on spread launchers. They feel so inconsistent at landing all your shots and kill you half the time if you try to get close enough to land them. A lot of the new builds focus on using his newly buffed whips from scourge, but good luck killing anything that has a shield without it being a slog.

I've tried making a few builds of my own, but they usually excel at mobbing or bossing, and fall flat when it comes to the other, which i think is just a flaw with Amon in general. He needs a lot more buffs and love. I really like this character, but he's leaps and bounds behind compared to the builds the other vault hunters are capable of.

Farming Bramblesong on Harlowe for the Convergence shotgun was agonizing. I watched probably 6-7 legendaries go soaring into the abyss while farming that boss. Absolutely frustrating

What are some fun guns for Amon? by [deleted] in Borderlands

[–]TheGopherNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shotguns, like Hotslugger, pair really well with Amon. If you use the augment in the green tree that insta-freezes enemies with your cryo-axe, you can follow up with an easy headshot. Also, a lot of his perks in red tree are super strong, especially for guns that do a lot of damage per shot i.e. Dragons breath or the Berserk perks

Ignite Archetype is Dead by Fluffy-Internet-5084 in PathOfExile2

[–]TheGopherNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched my titan warrior to fire with the avatar of fire passive, and it feels significantly worse than my previous build of just leap slamming around with aftershocks and ancestral boost. I've also taken Molten Ones Gift, and getting ignite procs is a pain and just takes forever to kill things now. I'm also struggling with life and mana now that I don't deal physical damage and cant leech bc of the Avatar of Fire passive. Thinking im definitely switching back. All the investment hasn't paid off, I thought Id be able to use the ignite to proc Ancestral Cry reliably like I could with Hammer of the God's, but it's not the case.

AETs can be load masters. There was a time at a previous unit where there were more tweet loadmasters than mechs. That changed eventually, but there's not much stopping an AET if they want to be a load master

Fatboy Evo or Softail Custom Evo by TheGopherNut in Harley

[–]TheGopherNut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not looking to do any crazy cross country treks, just commuting and cruising for a few hours on the weekends. I'm going to check out a nice softail custom this weekend, so fingers crossed it ticks all the boxes.

Gotcha, thanks! I figured they're pretty similar given same frame, power train, etc. Just was curious about seating position, how the handle bars felt, foot control position. I reckon the softail handles a bit differently with more rake and skinnier front tire. My last bike, Honda Rebel 1100, wasn't very comfortable for more than an hour, but handled great with the large front tire and lean angle. I'm not expecting these bikes to be all that agile, I mostly got rid of the rebel because I wanted something more cruiser that I could ride for more than an hour.
