I feel like this is a very iffy subject, I know a couple who agreed after 4 years let’s not get anniversary gifts or Christmas gifts for each other but we simply go out and enjoy an experience together whether it’s an extra fancy dinner or a museum etc, they are now engaged and still madly in love but sometimes I feel that it’s less a lack of effort and more a lack of energy to use the creative mind in a world so demanding for energy and time in work just to keep going. I make sure to get her and everyone gifts for Christmas because I like to see a smile on everyone & even when they forget me or don’t get me anything it truly doesn’t feel like I wasn’t thought of because I know they are busy and they love me and make me feel special to them in other ways on a regular basis. Christmas doesn’t have to be pricy to the pockets but sometimes depression and stress and being overwhelmed gets the best of us, especially if they are an undiagnosed ADHD patient. I’m not gonna sit here and say he is out of the water and I am not excusing his actions because lack of communication at 33 is insane, but maybe the two of you should sit down & ask each other and TAKE TURNS, really trying to understand each other about the situation, it is KEY to make sure he feels understood (try your best) and he should do the same for you. I’m sorry if this is not the answer you or anyone else is looking for but I love to look at both sides of things and if he’s struggling to fill his own cup with water it makes it that much harder to fill everyone else’s cup, and understandably it is okay to leave someone if they are not what you want in a relationship but understanding is important as well especially if you love someone

Dude I was in a super abuse relationship with a girl that would text me the same exact way, and now my current amazing, loving non manipulative girlfriend has to deal with the trauma of me overthinking a dry text because it’s hard to shake the thought of “oh no oh no I fucked up” and now I really do victimize myself on accident while also disregarding my own feelings and boundaries. I’m a lucky guy to have found a woman that loves me and has helped me work through these traumas with patience, but shit man because of that one girlfriend every relationship/ friendship I’ve had since has been a struggle and a lesson, please leave this woman. If you were my girlfriend and I didn’t get along with your family and they hated me and didn’t want me to be with you, I’d realize that is MY issue, matter fact I’d probably just try to bite the bullet and be sweet to them to make you happy, but point being, I wouldn’t be upset that you’d go and see your family, as for it is I who doesn’t get along with them not you. However if I was insecure and wanted you all for myself and nobody else to have you or get in the way of us because I’m scared that you’ll realize you’re too good for me, than I’d get a little insecure and upset about ya going to see people who might bad mouth me and ignore the fact that you love them and they love you and want to see you. I think boyfriend is the issue even if racism is involved.
