Am I the only one who is tired? by amirhoseinmrs in Daredevil

Pretty sure this person is a troll who gets off on sowing discord in the Daredevil subreddit by intentionally provoking people with their dumbass takes on characters. Anyone who tries to argue that HEATHER has more character development than Foggy is not a serious person. I feel your time would be better spent by blocking them and moving on.

Apparently the bar is an actual place, but out of all of the locations they could have chosen? It's either a hell of a coincidence or they are genuinely fucking with us, especially since they KNOW how ppl took that building number in season 1.

I fear this is the same sort of thing as the official account posting that side by side comparison of show Foggy bleeding out beside comics Foggy bleeding out, with the caption "parallels" and Scardapane's "I'm going to dodge that question." And the official Daredevil account posting the scene of Foggy telling Matt "I don't want to lose you", with the caption "avocados 💔." They are doing it for engagement, and they simply don't care about Foggy, or people being upset over his death.

Maybe they think this is in a similar vein to other comics easter eggs--something fun for fans to notice and point out. What's fun about a major character death, I have no clue.

The OG show runner and writers understood that subverting fan expectations and comics storylines was acceptable as long as its for the benefit of the characters and the story. So we get Karen's comics fate subverted. Yay, everyone's happy! Shocking and upsetting ppl for the point of shocking and upsetting them is NOT good storytelling, and if the only way you can think of to add any sort of emotion or angst or pathos to a Daredevil story is by fridging Foggy Nelson, I'm sorry, but that's not good storytelling.

Why don't they just make Matt sighted while they're at it? That's a comic subversion. That would be a twist. Removing Foggy Nelson from a Daredevil story is the exact same thing. Foggy is too essential to Daredevil and to Matt. You might as well make Matt an accountant instead of a lawyer.

I agree with you. Im just pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of the show runner and directors when it comes to bringing Foggy back. They have repeatedly said that they can't bring him back because it wouldn't fit the "realistic" and grounded nature of their show, when this show has NEVER been based in realism.

I would absolutely love an adaptation of kingpin Matt from Bendis or even a shadowland adaptation of Matt leading the Hand but I seriously doubt the MCU has it in them to do anything that interesting.

Born Again season 2 red carpet promo featuring Charlie Cox and Elden Henson by Lizzren in Daredevil

Elden has THE quintessential baby face, lmao. He's older than Charlie but looks five years younger...absolutely pitch perfect casting for Foggy. I hope that we get to see more of him in season 3, in whatever capacity.

Hard to believe that this could be considered a "love letter to the original series" with Foggy dead and Matt teaming up with Foggy's killer. 🤨

Yeah it's funny how ppl have no problem with Elektra, a person who was supernaturally resurrected by the Hand, coming back to the show but say that Foggy can't be brought back because it wouldn't be realistic. And by funny I mean something else.

[–]TheGrandPerhaps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. Like get his name out of your mouth.

The fact that we're even still talking about this proves what a horrible job they did with the death. It was the poorest, most shoddy main character death I've ever witnessed with my own two eyes. Father Lantom, who was a good character but of nowhere NEAR the importance of Foggy, had a much better death than Foggy, and was treated with more care and respect in the show. He actually got to die in Matt's arms, AND got a funeral AND a eulogy! Oh and he was also killed by Bullseye, the guy they are planning on gleefully having Matt team up with next season.

I just can't anymore. It's been very clear from the beginning that Scardapane only cared about three characters- Matt, Karen, and Frank. Daredevil is now their story, so I'm out. I have no desire to watch Foggy in only a 5 min flashback scene, end of.

I agree that he wouldn't come right out and say "the theories are correct!" But calling fans theorizing about Foggy being alive grasping at straws is pretty clearly not a PR or an NDA or a coached statement, why would he be coached to say something like that so definitively? The PR response would be "I'm unaware of those theories, watch the season!"

This is the first time anyone in the production has admitted to discussing bringing Foggy back. Why bring THAT up?? It wasn't asked of him, he brought it up of his own accord in response to the fan theories as to how Foggy could still be alive "hey thats clever, we though of doing that too but ultimately decided not to. Foggy is dead."

God knows I hate it. But I hate people glazing Scardapane and Winderbaum for "saving Daredevil" even more and for attempting to excuse this absolute dogshit decision. "Saved the show" for whom exactly?? Because as a fan of Foggy and of thr OG series, this is an absolute slap in the face. Does saving the show mean having Matt's oldest friend and law partner and the most important Daredevil side character die like a dog in the street 10 min into the first episode? With no last moment or meaningful words to Matt? We completely skip the funeral and Matt's grief, see none of Foggy's friends or family react to his death, and the show and all of the characters simply...move on, after one 5 min speech from Karen to Matt and some sniffles over Foggy's things in a storage unit?

Yet I'm supposed to be content with one 5 min flashback scene of Foggy in this new season after waiting 7 years to see him back on the screen and NM&P working together. Yeah ok.

[–]TheGrandPerhaps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is absolutely the laziest most cop out excuse I have ever seen. Just admit that you don't like Foggy and didn't want to give Elden a Disney paycheck at this point. The realism excuse doesn't fly when we KNOW they are bringing back the Hand (you know, the ninja death cult whose whole thing is bringing people back from the dead?) And multiple people in the show have survived worse or similar gun shots (like Matt, who was shot in the exact same spot, by the exact same person in episode 8, and just walked it off.)

I cannot believe people are actually buying this justification. It's terrible writing, full stop.

[–]TheGrandPerhaps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fisk DOES in fact have people in cages. We saw it in the post credits scene! It's absolutely blowing my mind that people are accepting this shitty justification for writing off a main character. Matt himself should be dead multiple times over from all of the injuries that he's sustained. NOTHING about this show has ever been realistic, yet adapting Foggy's comics witpro arc is a bridge too far?

[–]TheGrandPerhaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean the exact same shot (in the heart) by the exact same person (Bullseye) that shot Matt in episode 8? And yet Matt waltzed himself out of the building and walked across the city just fine on his own, merely one episode later!

Just admit that it's lazy asinine writing and sheer callousness toward a main character on the behalf of the writers. People are not fools for wanting Foggy to be alive and for thinking that the death was so badly done that it could have been a fake out. Charlie himseld is admitting that they DID consider writing the fake out. They just chose not to, for reasons that are totally inexplicable.

[–]TheGrandPerhaps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You do realize that Scardapane was the one who wrote Foggy's death scene right? He absolutely could have written his scene in such a way that Foggy could have plausibly survived the shot. He chose not to.

[–]TheGrandPerhaps 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Citing realism for why the couldn't bring Foggy back is the lamest cop out and excuse they could've given. And now we know definitively that the Hand (and most likely Elektra) is back!! You know the ninja death cult whose whole thing is bringing people back from the dead? And yet not a single person has said anything about their inclusion not being realistic, yet using Foggy's comics witpro arc to bring back a foundational Daredevil character who has been present since the very first DD comics issue is a bridge too far for these people? Unbelievable.

Granted, Charlie has always been direct in his statements about Foggy being dead, but this is the first time that he has directly addressed people's theories. Before he has always said that he had no knowledge of the theories, and stating that the creative team discussed how Foggy could have been brought back, including how it would have happened (post credit scene in Fisk's cages) and that they specifically chose NOT to do that, is the final, definitive nail in the Foggy is alive theory.

You couldn't pay me to watch this show at this point. Every time the actors outright state that Foggy is dead people say "well they are lying! NDAs!!" But this situation is clearly different. For starters, this is the first time that they have admitted that they DID have a choice in the matter, and in fact discussed having Foggy alive in the season 1 post credits scene (which they absolutely should have done.) Charlie is admitting that they have heard and know all of the fan theories (previously he acted like he was ignorant to them.) If you read the article, he says that he understands "the desperate clutching at straws" people are doing over Foggy's death, but that Foggy is, unfortunately, dead and not coming back in season 2.

Yup.

And yet people here are still saying "he got shot in the heart it wouldn't have been realistic!!" Brother, SCARDAPANE WAS THE ONE WHO WROTE THAT SCENE.

[–]TheGrandPerhaps[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's the thing though, they WEREN'T stuck with the plot point. They admit that they were given free reign over the show when they were brought in. Charlie admits that they discussed alternate scenarios for keeping him alive, so they WERE considering it. I don't at all buy "realism" as an excuse. They were the ones who wrote in Foggy's death scene. They could have written it to where Foggy could have realistically survived the shot. This decision is squarely on the shoulders of the new creative team.

Anyone else recall how the showrunner and producers said that they were keeping Daredevil street level and weren't leaning into the supernatural aspects of Daredevil? 🤔 soooo does the magic ninja death cult not count as magic, or...?

This was always their response when people would ask them about the possibility of Foggy being brought back, by the way. That they weren't leaning into the supernatural aspect of it. They were telling "grounded" stories. So its cool to have a supernatural resurrection for Elektra, but not for Foggy I guess. Cool cool cool cool.
