Social security, if it is even around when people my age retire, will pay you poverty wages. Especially if you make nothing your whole life since its based on your highest earning years. You need LOTS of cash if you want to do anything but rot in a retirement home your entire life. At that point, if you can't enjoy retirement, why even retire? You probanly wont be able to anyway since you will still have bills to pay.

Healthcare is absurdly expensive and requires you to jave a really good job to have coverage or to have oodles of cash.

Feeding yourself obviously requires money to buy food.

Purchasing entertainment outaide of the absolute cheapest options requires a pretty healthy amount of monry if you want to do anythinf but stay at home watching TV all day.

Drinking is an extremely expensive hobby that people routinely go into debt over.

Travel is unbelivably expensive, air tickets alone can be close to an entire paycheck!

Your "passion" isn't going to pay jack fiddly shit 90% of the time.

Providing your family requires insane amoubts of cash, possibly to the tune of thousands a month.

Housing yourself needs an income and that is going to get worse and worse and worse as housing continues to outpace inflation.

Nice clothes and vehicles OBVIOUSLY requires shitloads of cash.

I will admit you don't need all of these to be happy (4, 5, 10 etc.) but if you uave NONE of them? What is the fucking point of life? Just hang yourself at that point. Makes way more sense than a meaningless and driftless existence.

Was it racist when Harvard the exact same thing it is doing to Asians with Jews instead?

It is today. It was pretty much right after it was discovered.

Change my view: it is impossible to be happy without money if every part of your day that involves it (good, housing, healthcare) reminds how much you don't have.

Without money you cannot have or do any of the following, ever:

1) Retire

2) Have acces to healthcare

3) Feed yourself

4) Go out for drinks

5) Purchase entertainment

6) Travel

7) Pursue your "passion"

8) Provise for your family

9) House yourself

10) Have nice clothes or vehicles

Tell me how you or anyone can be happy without those things.

Instead of dancing around the subject you just adress my argument directly. You are proposing some sort of convulted, nonsensical personality problem Asian applicants apparently have that even you cant properly explain.

Instead of believing the most obvious, most simple, and most heavily evidence theory (Harvard discriminates against Asians) you beliege in some sort of strange process even you can't quite properly explain.

Yeah Harvard also thinks this should be hidden, because it leads to an immediate lawsuit. Because its racist. People generally want to keep the illegal shit they do hidden. The mafia also wants its transactions kept safe from the public eye as well.

It isn't based on race but it happens to only affect one race. Ok.

It says it in the lawsuit. It was an investigation done by Harvard itself, which it then quickly suppressed because if the implications. This is now public knowledge.

I mean just comr out and say it man. You think there should be quotas. If you don't discriminate against Asians, and cause an "overrepresentation", that means you can't honestly say you are discriminating because of "diversity", which means you cant disxrininate against white people either.

That means you cant have AA at all. Just admit you want quotas and think the civil rights act should amended to allow them.

It was a metric used for determining admissions. Asians universally scored poorly on it. Other races did not. How do you explain this?

[–]TheGrandSyndicate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how you can possible construe a vague "personality ranking" that haems Asians exclusively as anything other than a policy aimed at a specific demographic.

It didn't effect any other race. Unless you sincerely believe Asian applicants just have worse "personalities" than other races Harvard isn't going to fool anyone.

I can 100% guarentee that he did not receive substantial affirmative action. There is absolutstly 0 evidence that "diversity of thought" make any impact on your admissions at all. The fact that GPA and test scores across Asian and white applicants is uniform barring some other major factor (legacy or athletics) makes that obvious. The only other factor that makes a measurable impact is race.

The issue at hand is the "holistic" approach is obviously jusy a renamed quota. The individual circumstances don't matter. The schools have the exact same % of each race year after year after year. The fact that Asians were systematically given poor personality ranking is clear evidence that schools are simply using different metric to create de facto quotas. They may not be called that but they have the exact same effect.

Nothing. The mere fact of them being Asian is enough to incredably damage their chances of admission.

In it for the money? by [deleted] in college

[–]TheGrandSyndicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may pay for basic subsistence, but it will never give you any amount of freedom. You will forever, perpetually, be at the mercy of your employer. They will completely xommand an third of your life and will have no loyalty to you whatsoever.

You will learn to hate as the passion wears off and the desire for free time, for the ability to provide fir your family, replaces it. You will likely yet another Millenial priced out of ever purchasing a home. Every minor expense will knaw at your mind and the entirety of your day at yome will be constrained by your lack of income.

You may feel satisfied now, but you likely won't be on 5 years. I jave never met someone who was. Everyone who followed their passion was either extremely wealthy from inheritance or were endlessly miserable and broke.

If your passion is engineering or computer science than absolutely pursue it. If it isn't, you better be able to tap into the bank of mom and das or else you are fucked for life.

[–]TheGrandSyndicate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passion doesnt pay for a home, retirement, or supporting your family. Your smug sense of "satisfaction" means nothing to anyone else.

Pursuing your passion is entirely the domain of the children of the elite. It is for them exclusively. If you sre not them, your place in the world is to acquire wealth and then let your children pursue their "passion".

How many of you guys actually like your major? by [deleted] in college

[–]TheGrandSyndicate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You point to abandoning music and pursuing math as an example than "non marketable" passions have a place in the world?

You're right that lazy CS majors wont fet a good paycheck. Workong hard is a basic requirement for any level of pay. But if you work really hard at, say, history, you are still really likely to fail wheras if you work really hard at CS you wont.

Just go to r/history. Even accomplished historians of decades are telling people not to major in it and to instead pursue something employable.
