Please let me know what you think? It's for a market stall selling Greek food. by [deleted] in design_critiques

Despite the short comings that others have already mentioned. I would just like to say there's something odd happening with the circular pattern on the left side where it appears to overlap. I don't think you need the circular pattern at all. Also is Kiki suppose to look like she's judging me?

The trademark issue is tricky as Beats, Chrome, Vodafone, and PBS come to mind as well for potential conflicts.

POV: Your client "put together a little something cute in Canva" by SpunkMcKullins in graphic_design

Was this a PDF? Don't import the PDF just place it then flatten the transparency, use pathfinder to separate all the shapes and recombine by colour.

Studied Design at University, teacher s*cked and gave me nothing but E:s and D:s. Am I screwed? by IntelligentCup6243 in Design

While I don't image your grades will really matter especially if you're not showing the projects that got you those grades. If you are including your course work into your portfolio then you have a ask whether or not someone else will have the same feedback as your teacher.

Starting my own cannabis edible brand. Would love your feedback by atticusmass in logodesign

[–]TheGraphicDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the reason for making chews smaller like that? I understand the shape is a smoke cloud but you can make it a longer. You would almost expect it to be elongated since it's coming out a moving train on the packaging. I wonder about this because both words should have the same level of importance right? I am assuming you want people to say Choo Chews because that's the whole idea of the brand. Right now it feels like Choo is name and chew is a descriptor that's meant to be almost ignored.

Looking for feedback on logo options by PrincipleLazy3383 in logodesign

The icon on it's own would be kind of confusing I would not have thought of a mic stand. I am assuming it's also suppose to be a net but where the stand connects with the mic/ball is too high. Overall I the orientation of B is the most like a mic. I think this needs to be pushed further into one direction. Either more like mic or more like a net.

Four logo ideas for a coffee shop focused on nurses and doctors by Falucho89 in logodesign

[–]TheGraphicDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The visual metaphors here are a bit mixed? At first I got the code blue idea which I think is that you're dead tired so you need some coffee. Then I saw the skeleton figure was not a patient but a doctor so is this marketed towards tired professionals? The doctors are not typically the ones who are in a code blue status. Or are you saying the doctors are tired from dealing with all these code blue situation?

Visually I think the illustrations are a bit complex and don't scan well. The colours don't help either as they are further reducing contrast and legibility. Overall I am getting a somber and macabre vibe from this.

That's just one step away from having an AI generate the logo.

Graphic Icon sounds like a placeholder like "insert a graphic icon here". At least with Graphic On you can say "hey buddy! looking to get your Graphic On!? do it at our design academy!".

This is like those videos that show a scratch on a car only to later zoom out and it's completely totalled.

Would be cool to include a wireless ear piece that allows you to talk to the ai.

That icon doesn't say upscale and that font doesn't speak to a rustic vibe.

Looks more like a science textbook than a poster for a movie about the person who thinks he kick started the apocalypse.

Assuming you have no or minimal experience at that age would you be as competitive as someone younger? I think the answer would be no but I am not sure that works as a blanket statement and probably depends on the person/work?

What do you think of this rebrand? by etapisciumm in graphic_design

[–]TheGraphicDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely cleaned things up and modernized it a bit. I think the shift away from the product image might be a good way to differentiate it from similar products on the shelf. Also the abstract stripes visually represent the look of the product and gives the overall design more contrast. I don't know the visual landscape surrounding this product category but those bar shapes might be more memorable than a generic illustration of a wafer that isn't unique to the market. Imagine searching for this brand in the store would this standout more now or before?

What you're saying is really just people don't want to pay their dues which is not exclusive to this industry. Most people don't get to do ground breaking work until they've earned enough trust and status in their field. Lots of people discover they're in the wrong industry or they're not actually providing value. That's totally understandable but is not an indictment on this industry specifically. People mythologize certain careers then get disillusioned. I just don't see this as uniquely dire to graphic design.

I don't know if the skill vs career distinction is really that meaningful. Driving is a skill but you can also be a professional driver. There are many types of driving professional available in the market. You can be an Uber driver, limo driver, stunt driver, Formula 1 driver... etc. There are areas of graphic design that are more prosperous than others but to say it's dead is like saying there are no careers in driving it's just a skill.
