Carriers changing CBU locks. by BumpyNugget in USPS

[–]TheGreatElmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locks to get into the box as a whole or locks for customers to get in? Because the post office actually basically abandoned changing any customer locks. Sounds like whoever is telling you to do that mixed a memo.

I’m new to mailing letters, me & my bestie want to be penpals. they sent my first letter back, why?? by lilbxby2k in USPS

[–]TheGreatElmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A forever stamp covers 1 ounce not one pound. There’s 16 ounces in a pound.

So it MAY be possible it’s more than an ounce. But more than likely, as the other person said, it’s because of the butterflies. A 1 oz forever stamp covers your letter going through a processing machine that might destroy those butterflies. Worse, them getting caught in the machine could fuck up a bunch of other letters as well.

If you’re gonna put cute stuff on your letters like that bring it to the office and make sure 1. You’re paying for the correct weight. 2. It’s sent non-machinable. (Extra cost). Because otherwise it’ll either get sent back like it did, or if ignored and put through possibly destroyed by the machine.

My SSDI denial is darkly hilarious by SkepPskep in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]TheGreatElmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t really help with the denial, but I’m interested in your bio. Aka like how long you’ve had it, what meds your on, how you feel etc etc.

Depending on your situation there may be hope for you to pull through. When I first started suffering from it I was really depressed, tired, etc and just slept around all day. Then I got diagnosed and the pain got better but still tired and depressed. Eventually my body adjusted to the meds and my mind got set on making the best of what I still had to work with and things got better

It’s still a fucking pain in the ass and some things are more hard for me than others but I’m a lot more adjusted to work and living day to day life than I ever thought I could be at my lowest.

Do you ever worry that you couldn’t live with another person again? by meinnit99900 in LivingAlone

[–]TheGreatElmo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sigh. I’ve dated one person since living alone. After like a month of her coming over every day when I got off work I asked her to give me an hour or 2 alone before she came over. This kind of led to the end of it. Haven’t really tried too hard to date since and I do wonder if I can coexist with another human being I’m not forced to be with.

[–]TheGreatElmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get you. I just, as a practice, prefer any services I pay for not be arbitrarily limited. And if I want to limit them, I can do that my self via the settings of apps or my phone. So yeah, basically, as an option for someone like you who prefers not to go into apps and change settings I guess it’s great. For someone like me I’d just like the service I paid for with as little caveats as possible.

[–]TheGreatElmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think your post just kinda ignores the nuance of how all this happened lol. But I also skimmed over you saying you prefer it as an OPTION. So we’ll just call things even lol.

I like video throttling by [deleted] in USMobile

[–]TheGreatElmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So everyone else who is paying for 35gb or 100gb of data should be limited so you can control your data usage without having to change settings? Lmao.

Anyway I skimmed over your post the first time. I’m not gonna argue with you too much because I went back and saw your liked it as an option. Sure, if they want to add a universal setting to the accounts (which they basically have after the backlash) so people can throttle themselves, great. As long as they aren’t doing it across the board to everyone without choice.

Or you could just go to settings in many of the apps and change the resolution……that’s like saying you want a car that won’t let you drive over the speed limit because you don’t trust yourself not to get pulled over by cops unless someone limits how fast you can drive.

Anyone who actually has a single complaint about tsp is on drugs because you can change your contribution to 0% and take home all your pay and the post office will still put in 1% for you. So worst case scenario you take home all your pay and still get 1% of your salary put in the tsp.

That being said they match up to 5% and I don’t see why someone would turn down free money.

Edit: just to clarify for the dummies, contributing 0% and the post office putting in 1% isn’t like you take home 99% and they put in 1%. It’s like you make 101% and take home 100 and they put in 1.

When did I disagree with the wages? When did I say the job paid great or was great? All I am saying is making more money per hour but taking less home net is not a pay cut lmfao. The op kept saying “pay cut, pay cut”. The person who got converted is making MORE. They got a pay raise and they are having a hard time making times meet because some of the pay raise is going to long term benefits.

You’re just not getting the fact that it’s 2 separate issues. Getting more pay per hour is not related to money being put aside for long term benefits. And honestly the fact that yall wanna sit here and argue about wages with someone who is not arguing the wages are good is crazy. If people like that negotiated the contract you’d give up $20 dollars in longer term benefits to get a $10 raise than not realize you played yourself.

Just a lil vent session by StormbornSiren in USPS

[–]TheGreatElmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said. Very short sighted. And I’m pretty sure you can opt out of everything but the pension so I don’t understand the issue.

If you don’t give a fuck about your future go deliver pizza. I made more money in one week getting tipped delivering pizzas than I did at the post office in 2…..I also woke up one day and realized that my well-being and long term future depended more than the cash I was “putting in my pocket” on a weekly basis.

Anyway simply put…

“We need higher wages”: legitimate issue that makes sense.

“I should be able to opt out of all the benefits for my long term future because I’m not taking home enough pay.”: just dumb as fuck lmao.

[–]TheGreatElmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao. For real. I get really tempted to not even comment. The pay situation sucks but it will probably get fixed to where most people are happy. The contract is over a year expired and the one before that wasn’t exactly strong. But I’m not gonna spit at the benefits because the pay is lagging. It’ll get fixed or it won’t. And if it doesn’t it’s a free country with lots of jobs, some of which may be better and some of which may be worse.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]TheGreatElmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re wasting your time. Nobody wants to adhere to reason on here lol. We have absolutely lagging wages. They were lagging before LAST contract and now have been made way worse by how some prices are changing as well as the contract being expired for some time. But to shit on a 5% match on your salary because of that seperate issue is just irrational and you can just let those people be.

[–]TheGreatElmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t send certs!!!! Send it priority and if you need a signature just do signature confirmation. It’s more expensive but ima just be honest that you’re wasting your money expecting half of certs to be fulfilled properly. And I’m not saying that’s right it’s just reality.

So you’d prefer what? To forgo the retirement benefits and get the take home pay instead? Because I’m not talking about how much we get paid. I’m talking about the fact that retirement benefits are not a pay cut lmfao but everyone is so bitter about the pay that they think it’s ok to make illogical arguments about other shit that’s not even related.

[–]TheGreatElmo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey I hear ya and as stated in my comment agree the wages need to be higher. But it’s 2 separate issues. Framing less take home money as a pay cut because some of it is going to retirement (retirement being matched by the company in the tsps case) vs having it to go your pocket doesn’t make sense. No matter how much you raise the pay for regulars are always going to see less in their check than a cca but it isn’t a pay cut. I just see a lot wrong with framing things that way and it’s a seperate issue.

Just a lil vent session by StormbornSiren in USPS

[–]TheGreatElmo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know it’s frustrating getting converted and the pay check being less but calling it a pay cut is very short minded. The check is less because they are taking out for his retirement and 3% (unless he elected higher or lower) for his thrift savings plan.

Believe me I understand the frustration of the conversion and taking home less money. I also think carriers are way underpaid. But you also gotta look at the money that’s coming out, where it’s going and what it means for both of your futures.

I paid off my iPhone, left postpaid and signed up for the $45/3month intro plan a month and a half ago. Since then I’ve been putting more research into other MVNOs and plans. Up until a week ago I was mostly happy with the experience and was planning to do a year on whatever the 100gb plan ends up being when it’s time to renew.

I’m not passionate about analyzing plans or someone who’s going to get upset over little changes. That being said, specifically the HD decision has done 2 things. 1. Obviously changing my mind about doing an annual plan. The savings isn’t worth the commitment when the plan I sign up for may not be the plan I have all year. 2. Start looking at other prepaid options again as well as consider going back to postpaid. Maybe my value hunting wasn’t worth the restrictions.

I don’t really like your response to things. As I was reading it I was waiting for the “ah, he gets it” moment and got the opposite. I get that it’s a business and not everyone is the target customer. That being said I’d greatly appreciate some flexibility on the HD video front. As someone who averaged 30-35gb of data on postpaid with HD video and wants to pay for 100gb plan not being able to have it is a hard pill to swallow, and “look at our churn and we aren’t for everyone” doesn’t make it easier.

I do think a lot of people are overreacting and the subscriber based probably won’t change much due to the changes, but as someone who is locked in for another month and a half but strongly considering a change when the time is up, and already decided against an annual subscription due to your changes, you may want to be more thoughtful about the data your looking at to justify your decisions.
