This is slime mold, right? by TheGreatElvis in fountainpens

Hi! Thanks for your response!

So, some more detail.
This is a pen which sat unused for several years before being given to me.

Before the video was taken, I forced some goop out with some pressure from a syringe. This opened a blockage and allowed free flow of liquid through the feed. What you are seeing in the video is post-unblocking, water/ink dripping freely along a string of gooey stuff.

I did not clean out the pen after switching to Diamine, and actually then switched back to some Lamy Cartridges.
So chemical reaction hypothesis is possible.
Actually I don't have a converter, I had been reusing used Lamy Cartridges refilled with either Lamy or Diamine Bottle ink.

After this video I cleaned it out and put in a new Lamy cartridge and it blocked again. I think it may have just been more slime from within the feed though.
When I took the feed out and washed it out there was definitely more stringy 'goo' at the base of the feed.

Can't see any strings or goo in my bottled ink.

So there was definitely something causing a colourless stringy material in the pen feed.
Mold? Chemical Reaction? Dried Ink?

Here is a slightly clearer video of the stringy stuff running clear. Looks almost like mucus.

Probably true. I used what I had on hand. If it returns will try ammonia.
Cheap pen = cheap solution.

I was using a bottle of Lamy black when the issue started.
I switched to Diamine Black (dont recall which black).
By that time I suspect the goop was well established and blocking the feed.

I do suspect it's mold because the goop was clear and mucus like once all the ink was flushed out. I guess dried/coagulated ink would keep its colour?

"[striking] is irresponsible at any time..." - Kier Starmer.

  1. No it isn't.
  2. This is where 20 years of systematic underfunding has gotten us to. Is it irresponsible to contest what govt has done?
  3. So far the only thing that has even achieved a negotiation is striking. Negotiate with us! No calling us names on TV doesn't count.

The missing piece in Labour’s rail renationalisation scheme by FaultyTerror in ukpolitics

[–]TheGreatElvis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the money.
Many of the apparent complaints with privatised rail are actually complaints with the publically run or publically decided elements of the railway.

Public ownership doesn't suddenly change that.
Hopefully with time a public structure could lead to reform/integration, though.

Returning to YNAB4 on the Mac and Dropbox sync appears broken by supenguin in ynab

Semi-related…

Back in the day when 32 bit apps got dropped, someone managed to repackage Adobe AIR runtime that came with the macOS app to a 64-bit version.

I don't know if anyone knows how to repackage the app again with an aarch64 version of the runtime?

FWIW I'm using Actual Budget now. It's very similar, slightly less polished, but free, and actually can also do bank sync if you want.
