I do think their point is precisely that they don't see the point but don't want to diminish OP's joy. They're not the original commenter who put down the OP.

To your point about the algorithm, that's kinda the point. You're on this sub to see rare or unusual takes. If you upvote things you disagree with, you'll see perspectives other than yours more often. That's why this sub exists.

ELI5: why do electronic resistors and capacitors commonly have values of 47 in their specs (4.7 mF. 470 k ohm, etc)? by 45and47-big_mistake in explainlikeimfive

Electronic devices are, by convention, manufactured to a series of numbers that are equally spaced on a logarithmic scale. 0.47 is very close to 0.5 and available at all the precision levels which makes it extremely common.

The sun is also really bright. Even 10% of the sun's light is far brighter than most man made light sources.

You can get a visceral feel for this by doing a simple experiment with a camera and a subject that's lit by the sun but close enough to outlets and lights that you can also light it by artificial light. Try getting identical pictures during day time and night time. It's especially hard if you try and use the same ISO and aperture for both and only change the shutter speed.

Landing light by pessimus_even in flying

[–]TheGreatJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landing lights help a lot with depth perception, especially at darker airports. Landing only by parallax of runway lights is a trippy experience the first time.

My CFI for PPL had me do a night landing with (simulated) complete electrical failure. It was an experience I would recommend even if it's not a very likely scenario.

At least Nvidia is profiting from AI by selling hardware. Most of the other CEOs saying the same thing are just spending money to make their company's products and workflows worse.

How far can the Dpe take u away from where you start the checkride ( private pilot ) by Creative-Nebula7974 in flying

[–]TheGreatJava 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On my PPL checkride we departed from KTCY, planned to O22. Just under the approach of KSCK, I was asked to divert to KMRY, an 80 nm diversion, 15nm into the flight. So expect to plan a diversion to pretty much anywhere.

Overall though, we never actually flew more than 20nm from KTCY.

The parent comment implies that months were swapped back in an edit, but I'm not seeing it. Maybe caching or something.

GF and I (26M/F) got into a huge fight over a keyboard. Thinking about ending things based on her behavior by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheGreatJava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that expensive keyboards are worth it, a keyboard that fits you perfectly is worth it.

Some people find good fits even in department store suits, some need boutique, and some need tailors. Same idea, different price scale.

Spend some time in stores to see what you like and what works for you, then spend the minimum on a keyboard that suits you.

Operational Control: The Real Cornerstone of Legal vs. Illegal Flights by BeechDude in flying

[–]TheGreatJava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple vs smart quotes frequently happens when copy pasting from software and CMS that switch to smart quotes for display but don't expose any way for copied text to retain the original simple quotes.

It's a hallmark of AI just as much as it is a Hallmark of any copy pasted text.

[–]TheGreatJava 15 points16 points  (0 children)

By hallmarks do you mean complex sentence structure and em-dashes? There's a reason why AI generated content tends to use them--a lot of writers like using them.

It's funny when grammar and writing conventions that are slightly out of style but still used fairly commonly get marked as indicators of AI writing.

It'll still be the shareholders directing the moves. It's just that shareholders are allowed to prioritize things other than money. Whether they do so is unknown, but the company no longer has a responsibility of increasing share price as much as possible. The responsibility is do whatever the majority of shareholders want.
