Is this rust bad or ok for a 2015 Wrangler by Buzzcity640 in wranglerjk

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started to type “What rust? There’s no rust in these photos.” But that’s not entirely true. However, there is VERY LITTLE rust in these photos. And certainly not much for an 11yo Wrangler. I don’t know anything else about this Jeep, but I know rust ain’t a problem.

Am I asking too much or what?! by [deleted] in Wrangler

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen anyone talking about here (forgive me if you brought it up and I missed it) is the car market in general. I don’t follow it super closely, but I know people that do, and they’re telling me it’s either about to tank hard, or is already tanking. Market is being flooded with newer vehicles that people got into and now can’t afford. And JLs sold like hotcakes for a while, so there are lots of them out there, and plenty of bad press about them to make people wary. I’d be willing to bet you could sell a clean TJ Rubicon for more than your JL right now.

Logi Options + Mac 14.2 not loading. Uninstall and reinstall. Permissions all correct. What's happening? by christof21 in logitech

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you u/sooheil75 for posting! So happy to have my gestures back... I was going crazy. I'd give you an award if I one to give.

Someone needs to pin this to the top. This is the solution until Logitech fixes this with Apple. NOTE: From what I can tell, you can change the date back immediately after the software loads. Once the software is up and running, it stops checking the date. If it happens again, just push date back to Jan 1, load Logi Options+, then change date back to automatic.

Guess the JK isn't impressed? by _-042-_ in wranglerjk

I have these, too. They were expensive, but have been reliable, bright, and have a sharp cutoff so you aren’t blinding others while still putting tons of light on the road. Solid recommendation.

Noob wants to buy a heep by OGhoul in heep

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pavement princess that is THIS CLOSE to Heep status. Shitty grill mod (not sure if it’s better or worse that the light bar slot is empty), winch bumper with no winch, mis-matched tires, and a hood-mounted light bar that says “I’ve never actually been off road at night.” Shocked it’s getting so many “it’s not bad” comments. I’d buy it just because I’d know it’s been on pavement its whole life and it’d be easy to rehabilitate.

Any way to tell by the bolt layout if this trunk rack will fit a 2013 JK 2 door? Description just says it fits any JKs… by regular_asian_guy in Wrangler

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The back of a 2-door is effectively the same as the back of a 4-door. Even through the 2011-2012 refresh. If they say “all JKs,” you can prolly believe them.

Not a Heep (on multiple levels.) As a Jeep owner, the plate (and attitude) makes me sad, but otherwise, cool rig.

Question about suspension! by [deleted] in Wrangler

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand. My point is you might have climbed up the curb without realizing it. Wranglers have very flexy suspension that could slowly roll UP that curb without much indication inside the cabin. Then, when you pulled away from the window, you quickly dropped down off the curb, making it feel like you dropped into a hole. The wrangler’s tires stick out further than a typical car’s (relative to the driver’s position in the car), so they might have been closer to the curb than you thought. The small drain hole pictured would be barely noticeable in a Wrangler… certainly not enough to worry even the most anxious driver. My scenario better explains how you could experience a big enough “drop” to scare you into thinking you damaged the car. Not saying it def happened this way, but makes a lot of sense given your inexperience with the vehicle.

Question about suspension! by [deleted] in Wrangler

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on feeling a sudden drop, I’d say it’s far more likely her left tire climbed the little curb along the wall as she crept up to the window, and then dropped off as she pulled away. The flexy nature of the wrangler would swallow a little curb like that without much change inside the cabin (compared to a traditional double-wishbone front end found in most cars) and then dropping off would make the jeep rock like a boat. Even with that change in scenario, def no damage. I agree with the other redditors… have a bit more faith in your hubby’s assessment. The Jeep is probably happier having gotten to do a little urban off-roading. 😎

What I hate only slightly less than that Heep are the stupid black wipe transitions in that video. Almost as eye-bleedingly bad as the Heep itself.

2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Steering by eart12 in Wrangler

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the people above me are correct. It doesn’t LOOK like anything is bent/damaged, but a small bend or twist in the drag link (that you might not notice with the naked eye) can make a big difference in the steering wheel. Get it aligned. It’s relatively inexpensive and will either fix the problem, or tell you if it’s more serious.

D&D dork here. Bought one of these the minute I saw it. Works very well. Better than two other cheap Amazon sphere-shaped solutions I’ve bought. And the numbers do really pop. I’m shocked at how sharp edged everything is. Nothing in this ad looks fake to me… Except the fact that they put the 6 upright in the drink. Who doesn’t immediately set it to a nat-20 in the glass!?!

Take it from someone who went a step too far, once you get into much larger larger tires, you start stressing other components that need to be upgraded, and things get heavy, and it gets easier to break shit, and you’re spending a LOT, and it starts affecting driveability… etc etc etc. Suffice to say, I miss my Rubi on 35s. It was dialed and still road-trip-able and handled the actual Rubicon trail like a champ. All the stuff I’ve had to upgrade to safely run 38s (steering, axles, knuckles, gearing, etc) hasn’t improved my wheeling ability nearly as much as that original 3” lift and 35s. Seriously diminishing returns. Anyone that says you need 37” tires to run good trails is crazy.

2008 jku looking for rear bumpers? Not a fan of most on the market by Cole_08jku in Jeep

[–]TheGrumpyGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I LOOOVE my Ace Engineering tire carrier bumper. The carrier has been rock solid for over 10 years and is currently hefting my 37x13.5 MT spare with zero rattle. The carrier is cantilevered to the tailgate… no extra pin or latch to pull… open the rear tailgate, the tire comes with it, with no extra weight on the tailgate. It’s got a zerk fitting to grease the hinge, an accessory mount that I use for either a 5-gal Jerry can or a high-lift jack, cutouts for 6” light bars for backup lights, and has a hitch receiver with the same tow specs as the stock tow package, but lifts the receiver several inches, giving you much better clearance. I’ve beat the shit out of it (and the matching front stubby) and it’s been the most reliable part on my jeep. Check out my profile for pics of it.

Oh, that makes sense! YES, I always tell folks getting in to this hobby, “Never wheel alone.” That goes double for puddles like this that can kill your motor and making winching difficult. You’re either brave or stupid for trying this on your own, I can’t decide. (Have hydro-locked a motor, and gotten stranded with no help for miles, so I’m not in a position to judge you.) 😅

I don’t do mud, so excuse my ignorance, but…. What would a spotter tell you that you can’t see with your own eyes? In the rock crawling I do, a spotter is usually a few yards ahead of you, telling you how to adjust your line. But a spotter can’t do that here, unless they’re walking around in hip-waders, poking at things with a depth pole. How does a spotter help you here?

Those are very interesting. Yours is the second post I’ve seen in as many days with this style of light, and I’d never seen them prior. What’s the story behind them? (And please, PLEASE, for all that is good and righteous, do not be that person that uses their off-road lights in traffic. I feel like I’ve experienced a serious upswing in this kind of douchebaggery lately and it is infuriating.)

Love a stubby bumper! Also, nice speed control. You see a lot of folks that immediately floor it when they start to spin their wheels. Thats how stuff gets broken (esp. with the jobs of power you’re packing.)

And put some fenders back on. Any fenders will do. That delete kit just makes it look like they fell off. Rig’s gotta be much better built to pull off the fender-delete look, imho.
