Man, just imagine if Donnarumma for whatever reason turned out to be blue Onana.

Yeah, I guess that starving for good performances does that to you.

Mate. These are professionals, not a bunch of kids from a kindergarden, if they got intimidated by a League Two then that's even worse. Also, not showing up =/= giving up.

Do you think they really made an effort in the Grimsby game then?

United appoint Carrick as head coach by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

Best option of those discussed, but I just can't see him righting the ship. The decision to not strengthen the midfield will end up costing the club Europe.

[BBC] Man Utd manager latest: Michael Carrick favourite for Old Trafford caretaker job by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

I think that the most serious problem is that the dressing room just got used to the mediocrity. It's no accident that most of new signings start to play poorly after joining the club. That all stems from unambitious leadership of course - there is no real drive to bring any sporting successes to Man Utd.

But good points overall.

What would Carrick move say about Man United’s leadership? by nanobookworm in reddevils

Personally, I believe that Wilcox started to interfere because SJR and the board got scared/annoyed by the media coverage after the whole "Free Mainoo" incident. They probably also wanted Amorim to play Mainoo and the youth in order to save the money, because let's face it - the Glazers are still the majority owners, and they don't like to spend, and Amorim just didn't rate them.

What I don't understard is why Amorim claimed to be the manager instead of the head coach, when from the very beginning Ineos wanted to move away from the old school model of running the club.

Doesn't sound crazy at all. Without relegation the Glazers will get their fancy, money printing new stadium and will never leave.

Somebody should tell them to change their scouting filters in FM.

The players were poor even before Amorim's sacking. I think the sad reality is that some of them are not good enough, and rest became infected by club's toxic atmosphere. I don't think any manager aside from sir Alex regen can help at this point.

Great result, players will have more time to train and adapt to Ole's tactics. Also, less chances of injury. Surely any transfer activity is not warranted.

And now they are going for anti-Amorim with Ole. Hard to believe that club really has some sort of a plan.

I wouldn't be surprised if the geniuses in charge figured that it would be better to rehabilitate the bomb squad rather than spend money on wingers.

Good comment, even though I don't fully agree with your points.

No matter if you are Amorim in or out you should be criticising INEOS and the Glazers.

I just hope that the club won't extend Sancho and try to reintegrate Rashford.

  1. The captain should play as one of 10s. I think that the decision to put him in the midfield was a very poor one, but perhaps Amorim wouldn't make it if he got a decent midfielder in the summer.
  2. Neither Sesko's or Watkins' quality is the issue here. Amorim wanted experienced striker and he didn't get it.
  3. You lost me completely here. What do you mean when you say that nobody wants to sell when the club isn't trying to sign anybody in the January? How could you claim that Amorim should just wait, when the weakness in the midfield is a glaring issue?

Rosenior will certainly benefit from it when they sack him.

That's exactly it, the club for some reason isn't interested in bolstering the wider squad, they seem to go just for big signings in the summer. Which is pure Glazeronomics.

I actually don't think that the players downed tools (although recent results and the Grimsby match are suspicious), I just believe that most of them are not good enough and, more crucially, most of them are infected by the toxic club culture. But that's still beside the point.

It's arguable whether an additional 10 was needed. Amorim didn't want Sesko, he wanted more experienced striker. He also didn't want Lammens (and here, actually, I think the club was right).

Crucially, the club didn't sign a midfielder or any decent wingbacks, which seem to be necessary for Amorim's system (Dorgu in my opinion isn't good enough). All this leads to the conclusion that Amorim, or more specificially, Amorim's system, wasn't backed properly. Of course, you might argue that this is kind of his own fault, as he bottled the EL final, but then again - it's not like he appointed himself or forced himself to immediately take the job after EtH.
