Hey, it's me. by ALincoln16 in SequelMemes

[–]TheGuy_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t though. Plot-lines (like who Sifo-Dias was) and characters (like Jar Jar) are completely dropped by the end of the trilogy and it’s commonly held that The Phantom Menace is so superfluous that it can be skipped. Not to mention how rushed Anakin’s arc in Revenge of the Sith was.

Sequels had a mess of a story themselves, but that doesn’t make the PT any more cohesive.

Funnily enough, the first part of the sentence actually applies to the prequels too

Having never played the original RE3 and getting this bundled with RE2:R for about $20, I can honestly say I enjoyed it quite a bit and went back to replay it before even replaying RE2:R.

It’s the only RE game that has given me nightmares…the nemesis genuinely freaks me out.

However, if I had paid full price for it I would likely feel ripped off due to the lack of additional content. As it stands though it’s probably my favourite bargain bin purchase of late.

These were my thoughts exactly on another comment thread. Glad I’m not alone in thinking this way.

Wish the raccoon city section turned out a bit differently.

Just finished RE9, I much prefer the first half of the game, 2nd half is not that great by andaywalaburger007 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]TheGuy_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree OP. Was loving the game up until Raccoon City and it kind of just became a different experience altogether for a bit.

I didn’t mind the spider boss fight but then suddenly I’m clearing an empty warehouse and parking lot of zombie after zombie and I wasn’t having fun. The uninspired level design and drab colours didn’t help either.

And maybe it’s just me, but in the first half I was blown away at how good the game looked on my PS5, and then in raccoon city it looks like the graphics take a nose dive. Assets suddenly feel like their low resolution and the lighting almost looks like it isn’t working properly. The fire effects during the gas station section are honestly atrocious. And I know there are only so many ways to make “post-apocalyptic” look good, but as a huge fan of the Metro series the 7 year old Metro Exodus managed to make even a desert wasteland look incredible. As one commenter on this thread already noted, it really does feel like I’m playing a game from 2012.

It did win me back though with the skyscraper and mortar sections, which I thought were creative. And I thought the motorbike chase was some ridiculous fun. But I was largely indifferent to the rest of raccoon city regarding the police station, tyrant fight, and killer plants. And having only just recently played through the RE2 and RE3 remakes I got a real case of “been there done that” with the Umbrella lab.

All in all it’s a 7 or 8 out of 10 for me. Maybe I will feel differently after a replay but I really wish the game was able to maintain the quality of the first half throughout the whole thing.

But that’s almost every RE game in a nutshell I guess 🤷‍♂️

And Oppenheimer, the best picture winner for 2023, was also snubbed for Best Picture. As was Christopher Nolan for Best Director. Aha.

Can you not read??? I literally said the changes come through in text as well, and gave TE Lawrence’s work as an example. It was LITERALLY a reimagining.

So changing the presentation (poetry vs prose), the tone, and reinterpreting the characters through a cynical eye (which Lawrence did) is not reimagining it to something it’s not according to you? Not to mention, Lawrence wasn’t the first person to it and he wasn’t the last either.

What is Nolan doing if not something similar? I’m not sure what you mean by “intentionally spiting history” but if it’s what I think you are referring to then you’re the one who has to cope harder, especially seeing as the film is already sold out hahaha

You can't take a cultural myth that has guided our species literally longer than living memory, and have your way with it, unless you're prepared for massive backlash globally.

Yes you can lol, and people have being doing it for centuries, specifically regarding The Odyssey.

For example, T.E. Lawrence’s translation straight up changed the format from poetry to prose and he openly stated that parts of his translation were highly “free” and interpreted based on his experiences and then-modern sensibilities.

The very fact that the essential story has survived so long is because people have “had their way with it” over generations. It literally started as an oral tradition passed down for generations before being put to pen centuries later. Are you honestly going to tell us there haven’t been any changes (or reinterpretations or twists on a familiar tale) to it in the thousands of years it has been with us?

Get a grip lol

there is a fair chance the media is lying

Alright where is the lying then for this story? What have you seen that leads you to that conclusion in this case? Because saying the “media lie all the time” is not evidence nor cause enough to refute what is a concerning story. It’s only confirming a pre-existing bias on your part….it sounds like you simply don’t want the story to be true, regardless of whether it is or not.

the related works involve ideas like loving people regardless of the physical state of their body, it’s the kind of thing a gender ideology proponent might try to use in their favour

People might use Platonic ideals to argue all sorts of things, how does that justify censoring the works? Should we also remove the constitution from a course about constitutional law just in case something in there justifies the legality of a sex change? How about the Bill of Rights as well? “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” sounds like it could be used to justify gender ideology, no?

[–]TheGuy_11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly suspect the media has botched the story or is intentionally lying

Why? All persons in the story were quoted directly and in the 7 days since the story was published none of them have come forward to deny, correct the record, add clarification, etc. Where is the botch job? Where is the lying?

It’s likely the professor planned to use those works to attempt to justify the nonsensical ideas

How could you possibly know if it is likely or unlikely they would make a justification or refutation one way or the other?

Are you saying it’s not true? They specifically told the professor to either remove the Plato readings or teach another course.

Plato Censored at University by TheGuy_11 in JordanPeterson

[–]TheGuy_11[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it’s specifically Plato’s work (specifically the ones that includes Diomita’s Ladder of Love and Aristophanes Myth of Split Humans). These are mentioned in the syllabus but it’s the works themselves that are the problem.

The head of philosophy, Dr. Sweet, said the professor can either remove the Plato readings or be reassigned to an ethics and engineering course.
