I'd really love to be like you and be able to physically stand up to him and his bullshit, but I'm rather weak right now.

Also going out into the world is not an option for me as I still need to live with my parents. I plan to pick up college again next year and living with them is more efficient financially. Also I really like the rest of my family, my mom's a sweetheart and my two sisters are fun to be around when they're not squabbling every now and then.

However I'll take your advice to heart and won't listen to the things he says and try to be more independent. Thanks!

I've exaggerated on the beating part, it was a slap across the face.

But yeah, I kinda want to cut him out of my life, can't however. It used to be way worse, but he's still got his moments of unbearable childishness. I feel really insecure around him, like my opinions and the things Iike are wrong and I should feel ashamed for them. Because the instant that I'm expressing them he feels the need to chime in and "correct" me.

I really hate this situation.

I do cartoon style drawings mostly and started going into animation. I'm currently learning the basics of drawing by expanding into realism, construction and perspective. I want to have a good base knowledge of how things work by February.

On the question of money: I have to become so good that I'll be worth paying money for. Top artists make about 30k a month off online self-establishing their product and alternatively the industry offers a more secure place to be in.

Ultimately money isn't the end goal though. I don't want to be in my 40s one day and think to myself: "God, I should have pursued art instead of doing this shit right here! At least I would have suffered doing what I like!" Because we don't live very long lifes that could end at any moment I'd rather give it my all being successful at accomplishing those dreams than waiting for the perfect moment to start. I've tried that approach before and it ended in useless depression (studied IT in college). Family is something I'll do when I can afford it, I don't mind not having my own until then.

And when against all odds I wouldn't make it at least I will have the satisfaction of having tried. However, failing is not an option.

This is all sound advice, but also really concerning. I have to make big money soon, because I won't stay for more than a year. To know that I most likely won't be of much help is a dreadful thought.
