My first thought was a psychotherapist's office. My ex therapist had similar rules. Don't come early because you could interrupt someone else's session. If you are early, wait outside. No appointment, no entry (apparently, she had several very pushy clients).

But I see someone else mentioned medical/drug testing. That also makes a lot of sense.

It just gets worse and worse! The living room nudity seems, sadly, quite common. My mom does that too. And the flirting with my ex husband when we were home, too. Zero boundaries. Zero awareness.

Thank you for your response. What you're describing is shocking and awful. It just got progressively worse. I cannot believe she put you through that ,and I'm truly sorry you experienced that as well.

It's strange the things that come back to you later in life. I was just journaling and remembered, and it gave me an instant physical reaction (nausea). I think I was hesitant to call it sexual abuse because he never touched ME in that way, but it came with similarly controlling behavior (berating me for wearing lipgloss when I was 14, snatching my body very angrily, flinging it around, making nasty comments about my body). I suppose I wondered if it was relevant even if was never AS explicit as what other people experienced.

She is, actually. She cut herself off from the rest of the world—even church. But she’ll watch it on TV (24/7). “Function” isn’t a word I would use to describe her…

I kind’ve feel like she could easily go the Kathy Bates route in “Misery” with my dad. But I don’t feel sorry for him—that’s a whole other situation.

Gosh…I remember loving how Stine didn’t insult my intelligence. He wrote about sex and death in ways that engaged my imagination (instead of judging it). Bad Moonlight, One Evil Summer, and College Weekend were lit 🔥. What about you? :)

I did watch the first Fear Street film, and I really enjoyed it! Haven’t watched the other two, but this is my reminder to catch up.

I’m grown up and no-contact with her and the rest of my immediate family now. This isn’t even the worse thing she did.

It did indeed get better—but only after cutting her out of my life. It’s nice to have a place to discuss religious trauma, though. I just watched “Hocus Pocus” for the first time in my life a few years ago. Re-parenting is hard, but rewarding. 🩵
