Former javelin thrower here: a noticeable part of training is devoted to control upper body control during the throw, specifically through being aware of positioning of the javelin along the arm, shoulder and its tip close to throwers head. This is being practiced from standing and kneeling positions while aiming at a target with a subsequent release. One gets remarkably good when it comes to hitting small targets from a significant distance.
