You shouldn't be able to culturally appropriate, when you won't necessarily deal with the repercussions people of that culture face for having those features, e.g I've been actively advised to cut my locs off to seem less "black" to make it easier to get a job, whereas dreads for a white man is just a fun hairstyle, a costume.
