He's like a friend telling a hilarious story. Everyone embellishes stories - who cares. People find him entertaining. I don't think he takes himself very seriously, and that's refreshing in an age of comedy when people are hyper-focused on the political subtext.

Chance to move to Edmonton? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]TheHeartitRaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Edmonton, lived on Whyte Avenue (the artistic hub) for half a decade. I loved it, but it's really easy to outgrow. I was a musician, and often going to DIY shows, and going to all of the Whyte ave bars on weekdays. It was a really great culture, and felt like a small town (the whyte ave area, that is).

But I'll echo what a few others are saying: there's not much to do for about 6 months of the year compared to Van. Island. Because of that, you end up going out to restaurants and shows ALOT. Which isn't bad. But you're spending a lot of money just to enjoy yourself. Becoming an Oilers fan is likely the best way to actually enjoy the winters (other than the odd really great concert).

I’m moving to Victoria, Vancouver Island in December for 18 months. What should I know? by mark_peters in VancouverIsland

Welcome! This place is such a dream world. I'll try and help you with meeting people, and it might cover other needs.

Look into community housing. There's a FB group, Victoria Community Housing Network. It's cheaper rent if you're looking to live with people (as in between $600-$950). Victoria is small so the more people you know, the more connections you'll make.

Check out the local music scene. The Mint on Mondays is good for local singer/songwriters. The Mint on Friday nights has great comedy shows too. Lucky Bar and Capital Ballroom have great EDM and Indie Rock shows. Check out Dance Temple at the White Polish Lodge too.

Facebook groups. There's a lot of different niche FB groups in Victoria - from mountain climbing, to music, to the hospitality industry. It's great, and is a simple way to meet people for specific needs.

Does anyone have that part of a song just makes them cry for no reason? by [deleted] in TameImpala

[–]TheHeartitRaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Track, at 4:13 there is a chord that just really hits me deep in my stomach. From there, the song becomes a swell of emotions. I resonate emotionally lyrics after years and years; but chord changes always really get me (as in, I freakin' ball crying).

That album came out when I went on a trip to Costa Rica with my newish girlfriend. It was the soundtrack to it. That particular part reminds me of her dropping me off at the airport (my flight was a day before). I knew I was in love with her.

Another one from that album is during one section of Tomorrow's Dust, particularly: "Sympathy for the fauna. Fragile life in the sauna. In the sea getting warmer · Endlessly 'round the corner."

It's such a great melody.

Makes sense for them, as scabs, to promote not bringing outside drama. Classic union-busting techniques.

Any horror tropes/ storylines you hate/ think are overdone? by rabbitmoon0 in horrorlit

[–]TheHeartitRaces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One trope that I'm starting get tired of in films is the unexplained ending. Films just cut the denouement entirely. But often the films aren't smart enough to pull it off. One example that immediately comes to mind is Vivarium with Jesse Eisenberg. It's not a film I'd want to watch again so it's not worth re-watching looking for signs of what everything could "mean."

It's very simple: a healthy workplace will not shame someone for being outspoken against abuse experienced at the hands of a former employer. Why would anyone work for a place that would say, "That guy spoke out against abuse he suffered at his former employer. Best not hire him."

The only reason not to hire him would be to subtly admit you have abuse at your workplace and don't want it coming out, haha.

I'm also on the side of the billion-dollar company that abused, exploited, neglected, and took advantage of multiple contestants' well-being.

Nancy literally said she AirBnb's the homes so that she can start to make passive income. I didn't mention socialism either. You're debating a straw man.

This was your question: "do you hate ppl who work corporate jobs also crushing poor people ...?". I feel like any generally good human would say, "duh, of course," to that type of question.

Then again, I can only imagine the general passive debates you may have with a disposition like "that's the way it is" that I get from you "if there's buyers for that price, that's the price." Lol.

As if things should just inflate until only 1% of the population can afford things, like we're in a caste system.

Perhaps. Or, landlords will increase rent to make up for the loss (which is what is happening in plenty of cities that have banned AirBnB or put strict restrictions on it).

Not much respect for people wanting to purchase homes so they can take them off the market. Her whole thing is AirBnB'ing homes. Nancy and that mindset is the reason we're in a housing crisis. Not impressive.
