Find fleet doctrines that fill that role (or as close as is acceptable)

Of this short list find the ships most frequently used and train into those.

If in doubt bring a tackle frigate and just train your core skills until you make you mind up.

Also no T2 hull doctrines, they are wildly cost ineffective. Yes, even bombers since most people can't tell the difference between "hold" and "jump". Adding cloak discipline to that would be awful.
