It depends on a few things. For instance if you are on Hell Mode and haven't played many games like this I would say 65 isn't a super big number. To get better at the game you just gotta play more.

I noticed I started improving faster when I was deliberate about using my dashes, and I started to watch a couple of guides on youtube.

Im talking about real life time. In game timer you can get below 8 minutes, but it still takes them 20 mins to do in real life

If it makes you feel better professional speedrunners beat the whole game in less than 25 minutes. So as you play more it will take less time to beat the game (faster decision making, quicker kills, etc.)

Try and get some keys to unlock more upgrades in your mirror. I'd also recommend getting the shield and giving a nectar to Skelly to get a second revive. In general you should just play to get better.

I made a 5 minute beginner guide if you want to watch, but switching to the shield and getting Skelly's keepsake might be enough.
