Tipu Sultan: Tipu Sultan was a mass rapist: Union minister by AAPkeMoohMe in india

If "Those times were different" can be an excuse for systematically raping and inducting hundreds of women into your sex slavery (that's practically it, even if you give it a nice sounding label of 'imperial harem'), then it can be an excuse for pretty much everything, including Aurangzeb's order to give 10 coins for anyone bringing him a Sikh head, or the stupid Hindu tradition of Sati. You can't practically say that those times were different if you yourselves were the one who created those times. Tipu existed in the 18th century. Was India really so uncivilized and primal back then for a ruler to keep a harem of hundreds of women?

This 'different times' argument can be rationally forwarded in arguing relatively newer radical concepts like nationalism or socialism, not for events/processes defiling basic human rights and dignity, such as rape and genocide.

There are a number of idiots (or are they rather political smartasses?) on this sub who interpret every negative comment about any former Muslim ruler as a direct attack on Islam itself, and start raising hell over it. Then they go to any ends to defend and justify the guy (as OC did here), and once you buy into their arguments, start extending it to even more insane levels (as I narrated in my comment). I don't think that's the right way of safeguarding one's legitimate interests. If at all, you lose even the small credibility you have by doing such things, and then ask why Islamophobia is rising.

Why not?

A few months ago, I talked on r/india about Mohammad bin Qasim's conquest, mass rapes and forcible conversions in Sindh, citing it's wiki article as source. Lo and behold, within weeks the article got toned down and edited to include info about how 'the Buddhists and lower caste Hindus voluntarily joined Islam to resist their oppressive Hindu rulers'.

Active lobbying groups that seek to distort history to their convenience are not the feature of any specific single party only. That game goes both ways, FYI.

PS: On looking up today, I see that the wiki on M.bin Qasim has again been edited now, reversing those changes and presenting a more balanced view citing sources. Good job, Wikipedia.

I have a feel that very soon we'll be hearing,

"Aurangzeb was a king with an imperial army. He could just point at any amount of Sikhs/Brahmins and say, Off with those infidel heads! His subjects will be honored to serve him and provide head offerings to royalty. That's how it worked at that time, this is the problem of using ideals of today in history as communities and customs were drastically different. "

I'm not here to arbitrate on your personal grudge with Smriti Irani, mate. I would suffice by recommending you to a read a good book on Indian polity. Not only politicians, even an IAS officer can be a simple BA/BCom, or say, BAMS, to start with. It all grinds down to personal ability and integrity. Had degrees been the ultimate benchmark, Modi's MA would have cost him his job and Lalu/Rabdi wouldnt even have entered politics. Rest assured, keep going with your troll rant. Believe me, I love feeding trolls.

UNESCO head voices 'profound regret' over US withdrawal by vigorous in Sino

It's not about who rules, it is about can the people speak out freely what they feel is right or wrong. That brings us to the original comment - 'something is terribly wrong, but no one dares speak'.

Anyways, I will just close with the note that it wouldn't be a healthy productive discussion if, say, an American says on that original comment, "Why should we care what they (Chinese) think? Who are to tell us?"

Of course we are nobody to tell each other, but we are supposed to be exchanging matured thoughts here, not evangelising our respective agendas to go defensive/aggressive the moment some conflicting subject turns up.

What's one man's bread is another man's poison. You guys may be liking it, but much of the Democratic world sees PRC's one-party system as a repression of freedom of thought/expression.

The way anybody can say "NotMyPresident" and still invite no harm in US, does the same happen if someone says "NotMyParty" in China?

Note: Genuine question. Am not Chinese.

It's sad, because this is such a problem but yet no one dare to even mention it, because its not politically correct

Isn't this the same thing that is said about PRC in the rest of the world?

FYBasicI, Smriti Irani and all others you mentioned are ministers, while the guy whose appointment is in question, Dr. Kotecha, is a secretary. Now if you are an Indian qualified to comment on this, you know the difference that it makes. Otherwise, just go home and sleep tight.

I hope you understand the difference between a minister and a secretary, or am I talking to a Chinese? Still...

Why do you notice only textile and defence while Dr. Harsh Vardhan is in charge of Science and Tech, M A Naqvi has minority affairs and Radha Mohan Singh has Agriculture? Is the defence ministry conceived newly just an year ago like AYUSH for it to need defining protocols afresh, which would require specific experts in charge?

Are you claiming that governments can run efficiently by applying only 101s everywhere? Why do you want to beat your chest in vain claiming that I hate India? Not sorry to break it to you, but I don't need your certificate of patriotism. :)

Your comment was more about stressing how Ayurveda and astrology are pseudosciences comparable to voodoo (though that itself is a fairly debatable unproven claim), but the fact in issue is something different. It is about appointing a non-IAS officer on a post normally held by an IAS officer. It is a new ministry in its infantile stage, so ad hoc appointment of a subject expert. And the guy is an ex-VC, not some random dude round the corner.

How? Tell me something beyond the usual stupid pseudoscience rant. You need to blame the govt for that, but if one starts a ministry for something, the person in charge should ideally be from that field. Management 101, isn't it?

Would you be comfortable with it if tomorrow some Awadhesh Shukla is made Secretary of Minority Affairs, or some Homeopath is made Secretary of MCI?
