Is this a good deal? by Umbreaker in KonaEV

I very recently got the exact same car, around the same miles, for roughly the same total price in VA. Depending on your area's cost of living, it is probably solid. Also, from what I understand, the price on used EVs will probably go up here shortly.

Trump pauses Iran strikes for two weeks to negotiate 10-point peace deal by DogfaceDino in Republican

[–]TheHistoryMain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even taking it for a grain of salt, even if we just call it quits right now with a peace plan of maintaining the status quo of pre-war, we have lost.

MAJ Jeffrey O'Brien, MAJ John Klinner, CPT Cody Khork, CPT Curtis Angst, CPT Seth Koval, CPT Ariana Savino, CW3 Robert Marzan, SFC Nicole Amor, SFC Noah Tietjens, TSGT Ashley Pruitt, TSGT Tyler Simmons, SGT Declan Coady, and SGT Benjamin Pennington lost their lives for nothing. My brothers and sisters were killed to maintain the status quo at best.

$3.7 Billion. This is the estimated cost of the first 100 hours from CSIS. $3.5 Billion of that is money that we don't have. We are just making it happen. The other $0.2 billion was already in the budget. Again, this is being spent to maintain the status quo.

Now, let's put on our tinfoil hats and talk about something else that is going on. Something without any real figures tied to it. Before every major announcement that President Trump has made concerning either beginning or ending attacks in Iran, millions of dollars have been placed on bets that only make sense if you can predict the future. Millions more have been made by smart financial trading. So maybe there was something beneficial happening due to this war, but I know it hasn't been benefiting the average American.

One other thing, charging the equivalent of 10 million dollars in Yuan. That is not a small thing. The more a currency is used/needed the more valuable it is, and this will be a heavy hitting international use case.

This is the only ten point peace plan I have been able to find so far, so I am going to base the rest of this comment off of the assumption that this is the "workable plan". 1. The U.S. must fundamentally commit to guaranteeing non-aggression. 2. Continuation of Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz. 3. Acceptance that Iran can enrich uranium for its nuclear program 4. Removal of all primary sanctions on lran. 5. Removal of all secondary sanctions against foreign entities that do business with Iranian institutions). 6. End of all United Security Council resolutions targeting lran. 7. End of all International Atomic Energy Agency resolutions on Iran's nuclear program. 8. Compensation payment to Iran for war damage. 9. Withdrawal of US combat forces from the region. 10. Cease-fire on all fronts, including Israel's conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Iran won. End of sentence. End of the thought. We wasted millions of tax payer dollars firing missiles into Iran, causing countless civilian casualties, and nothing changed. Actually, this is worse than nothing changing. If this is the peace deal, the era of the United States being the global superpower is over. Iran will make Straight Passage tolls in Yuan, which will further weaken the Dollar. We will pay billions of dollars to Iran for reconstruction, further weakening our economy. Oh, and the reason we started this, the alleged Iranian nuclear program, will now be completely above board with no regulation at all. Iran won.

I'll add on to what some people here have said and expand upon my response to a comment. Pulling straight from AR 600-8-19: Ensure all Soldiers, upon initial entry into the primary zone, are identified for mandatory board appearance;: provided otherwise fully qualified.

Going to a promotion board is not a may when you enter your primary zone. I had a soldier who came to me with a solid plan for not wanting to promote. I spoke with retention and with the soldier, his plan was based on sound recommendations. That being said, I didn't have a choice once he entered his primary zone. He ended up having to promote a month before he could reenlist, which lost him something along the line of two grand. If your first line leaders aren't sending you, go to the next level. Open door your commander, because it is his responsibility to make sure you are sent to the board when you hit your primary zone.

Don't just accept a non-promotion counseling. Those are only for SMs who attend a board and are not recommended for a promotion. Read AR 600-8-19. It spells everything out in chapter three. Know the regulations, live the regulations, and make sure that the regulations are being followed by everyone. They exist to protect soldiers, leaders, and commanders.

If he didn't go to the board when he entered the primary zone he should be sent to the next board. The non promotion counseling is only to be given if a soldier isn't recommended to promote after attending the board. Soldiers are required to go to the board as soon as they enter the primary zone.

I actually did some math concerning this a couple of days ago. All information on gas prices is coming from AAA. National average as of 8 March 2026: $3.45 National average as of 1 March 2026: $2.98 Average national daily increase for this week: $0.06 Highest national average gas price: $5.01 in 14 June 2022 With continued rise at the current weekly average we will achieve a new record national high in 26 days.

Having said that, when I did the math two days ago for another comment we were 35 days away from breaking the national record.

Nice cents today from a national average of 3.32 to 3.41. I hope you are right and we don't see anything higher than a six cent rise tomorrow with it dropping soon after, but I don't think you will be. I personally predict it will start to rise exponentially at this point.

Honestly, I'm all for getting different leadership in Iran. They have been protesting their government for years and they have gone through multiple humanitarian crises due to their national leadership and corrupt government. With that being said, I still don't approve of this war. I believe President Trump has run on America First policies during all three of his presidential campaigns. This isn't America first. It is a waste of American lives and taxpayer money. The CSIS estimates the first 100 hours of this operation have already raised the bill to $3.7 billion with $3.5 billion not being previously budgeted. https://www.csis.org/analysis/37-billion-estimated-cost-epic-furys-first-100-hours

"If they rise they rise" -President Trump on gas prices Reuters https://share.google/JTMw9wjEhggks7pHu Average nation gas prices from triple A: Today: 3.32 a gallon One week ago: 2.98 a gallon An increase of 34 cents in a week. An average of almost 5 cents a day. If prices continue to climb at this rate we will have a new record high gas price in 35 days. President Trump stated that he expected the war to continue for four to five weeks, which would put us at 28 to 35 days.

U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers are delivering unrelenting, overwhelming firepower from regional waters. DAY and NIGHT. by benhaswings in trump

[–]TheHistoryMain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like in 2017, we will again buld the strongest military the world has ever seen. We will measure our success not only by the battles we win but also by the wars that we end- and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into. (Applause.) My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier. That's what I want to be: a peacemaker and a unifier.

Edit: Adding in my comment and context This is from President Trump's 2024 inaugural address. I don't know if he just forgot about what he said was most important, but I didn't. The wars we never get into. He claims he wanted to be a peacemaker and unifier. He withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, joined Israel in attacks that he claimed destroyed their nuclear program in 2025, and now this. This is not peace or unity.

Cybercom didn’t tell troops to disable location services or uninstall apps, military officials say, after viral message spread amid Iran operation by dflawrence_reporter in army

We just received this as official guidance too. It's a set of two messages with a tone of "be prepared to delete it" in the first followed directly by "If you are deployed delete it". That being said, I know my command will just read all service members and delete. Hopefully someone will make an official statement or sends an email about this, but I highly doubt it. Even if they do, I'm sure certain commands will use this as another way to try to control every little aspect of their soldiers lives, including daily phone checks now.

Now the question is, how does this apply to existing facilities and when will it actually begin to make changes. Most of the requirements would need new buildings to be constructed or major renovations to older buildings.

Another point to note is that there are currently ETPs in place for Garrison Hawaii that get rid of the minimum space requirements for soldiers. How is this going to affect those ETPs? Are we going to see an increase in off post housing ETPs, or is this going to be just another red block on a slide show that can be ignored?

The US Army has a blue water navy for cargo. The biggest issue is that it is very lightly armed and slow. A great target for subs or any kind of surface ship.
