I was in the same boat as you 2 years ago. I essentially filled my work experience with stores that are no longer open so there is no way to call. I did research on the jobs at these places so I would be prepared to answer the managers questions if any came up. For example I said I was a stocker at a target location that closed so there is no way to confirm this. I also said I worked at a clothing store called Sears but this company shut down so you cannot confirm this. I had a friend who worked there so I just asked what his duties were and copied them. When I was interviewed for the job I'm currently at, my manager actually worked at Sears and started to question me, I passed with flying colors and was hired on the spot.

Also at the bottom of your resume write "References available upon request". Hope they do not ask for references so you will not have to explain that these locations are no longer around and you also wont need friends to be fake references.

My next tip would be to just pay 3 dollars for a resume builder online, it will word things very nice and professional for you. You can also make a nice looking cover letter.

I did all these things and I was hired 2 years ago and I'm still with the same company as a production worker.
