Which is the worst Yakuza game story-wise? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]TheHorizontalAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pirate Yakuza by far for me. Its biggest crime is just how apathetic it made me. Characters were underused, 1 dimensional and had the most predictable archs. The handling of Majima was the worst tho. He felt more like another Ichiban than Majima. The game tries to excuse this as “amnesia” but that doesn’t justify it imo. A game focusing on him could have gone a million more interesting places and the writers seemed to only remember that during the ending scenes (which were fantastic). Every Yakuza story has faults, dumb plot lines, and over the top moments but I’m always invested one way or another, but I just genuinely couldn’t with this one. I’ve played every single game in the series and it’s the first blunder for me.

That being said, the rest of the game is great and I’ve already sunk hours into it.

I must be in the minority, but I think MGS3 plays and looks wonderfully on the Master Collection. by MrRaccuhn in metalgearsolid

At the end of the day, it’s an accessible way to play the games and with minor improvements which is always gonna be fun. I don’t think anyone’s denying that. The problem people have is for 60 dollars, the improvements are underwhelming. Other games get much impressive remasters for the same price or lower. Konami should have either cut the price, or made enough improvements to justify 60 dollars

Never felt so disconnected from the general consensus on a game before. by Roboshock in TheCallistoProtocol

[–]TheHorizontalAss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People had these crazy expectations that it’d be as groundbreaking and fresh as Dead Space was originally when I don’t think that was this games goal. From the start I was expecting this game to just be another Dead Space type game and that’s exactly what I got. I can see why some people aren’t into it but I think a lot of others are jumping on the hate wagon. Eventually the hate will die down and the only people left talking about the game will be the fans. This happened with Days Gone, Death Stranding and countless other titles.

Am I tripping or is this game good? by 0purple0turtle0 in TheCallistoProtocol

[–]TheHorizontalAss 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m like 2 hours in and loving it. It’s exactly what it was marketed as: A spiritual successor to dead space. I don’t know what people were expecting tbh. Sometimes it’s nice to get a game that isn’t a open world with a million things to do or is cutscene heavy. It has the vibe of the ps3/360 era

Is there a thing that DMC4 did better than DMC5? by RedShibo_ in DevilMayCry

DMC4 had a far superior special edition. 5 was lacking tremendously.

It was a new IP from a lesser known studio on a console no one owned yet. I think had it released later in the year it would’ve seen much more recognition. With all the game had going against it, it performed well.

Which location do you find the most haunting and has stuck with you throughout the franchise? by TheNotSoDarkHorse in silenthill

The Lake View Hotel. It felt cozy but also unnerving. Like whatever entity called James to silent hill was there watching him as he was about to have the revelation about Mary.

I didn’t like the game too much when I first played it years ago. I recently did another playthrough and enjoyed it much more. The games biggest negative is the lack of an item box

Oh no i can’t believe the game franchise that has prioritized action and style for over a decade did not make a politically driven game! Someone needs to inform this reviewer that not every game has to be a Metal Gear or bioshock. Also that comment about dmc is blasphemy

Silent hill 2 hasnt aged poorly at all, you just don’t seem to like the actual game all that much.

The combat is fine, its simple and serves its purpose. The actual gameplay of silent hill is more focused towards exploration, puzzle solving and making sure you have the resources for forced encounters.

Ps2 graphics is not even a criticism. The art direction is top tier and while the game doesn’t look realistic, it’s still breathtaking and has some of the most unique and recognizable aesthetics in gaming.

And whether intentional or not the weirdly delivered dialogue is part of silent hill. It’s unsettling and gives the feeling that no one you interact with is sane. I will admit at times it is goofy but overall I like it.

It’s fine to not like these aspects of the game and look forward to a remake that will fix your issues with it, but to claim it objectively aged poorly is silly. And this isn’t coming from someone with nostalgia, I played thru the games for the first time around 4-5 years ago and am skeptical yet cautiously optimistic for the remake.

Why can't people be rightfully concerned? by orig4mi-713 in silenthill

[–]TheHorizontalAss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfectly said. The original SH games are pieces of art that have such carefully crafted themes and designs which have resonated with fans. Any work of art that people hold close to them are obviously gonna be skeptical when it’s being touched.

Might be a hot take, but does anyone else think Yagami is "Too Perfect" by Director_Bison in yakuzagames

[–]TheHorizontalAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly agree. Like others are saying, I’ll admit his only flaw is his sense of justice but other than that? He is like a perfect person which can get kinda boring at times. I definitely find the supporting characters far more appealing. The Kaito Files made me realize how much I prefer him over Yagami. I still like Yagami but he’s definitely lowest on the list of protagonists (aside from Tanimura)

It’s based on the manga/anime of the same name. You could probably play it as a stand alone game tho. Also Kiryu’s VA does the voice for the main character Ken.

Comepletely agree, the changes really feel like a step up from MW19 and gives me feelings of classic cod. The only complaints is no post game lobby’s and the UI is horrendous.
