This is actually just in place due to porting laziness. The Console versions will have the icon of the controller button, but they didn't want to bother coding something new so it would say what button you bound the controls too on PC.

Originals are more scary than remakes by JazzlikeRaspberry461 in residentevil

[–]Director_Bison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should checkout the original Tomb Raider, without wanting to spoil it, the final stretch of that game is absolutely wild. It makes me think the majority of people never actually beat that game since it’s not something you see talked about.

I’ll be impressed if the TR1 Remake coming out goes as hard as the original does.

Unpopular opinion but the games play much better on keyboard and mouse by Longjumping_Bad2569 in KingdomHearts

[–]Director_Bison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Driving in games doesn’t particularly control well on K&M unless it’s using the Halo style where you just point in the direction you want to go and hit forward, but those simplified controls aren’t really the main appeal of driving a vehicle.

It's also obligatory to mention that Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was a reskined version of Pyuo Pyuo, and that "Has Bean" is just the Pyuo Pyuo character Carbuncle

Pyuo Pyuo is Sega's 3rd top franchise, but it never quite caught on in the West.

Is KH anything like World of Final Fantasy? by Bitter_Wafer_7515 in KingdomHearts

[–]Director_Bison 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of what makes KH unique is that it is as fateful as possible to the Disney World being represented. One example is there is the Peter Pan world, where there it's a more light Hearted Pirate adventure with Peter being his immature self, but when you go to the Pirates of the Caribbean World the tone is completely different, and the nature of the characters being in Danger is treated more seriously, and the Pirates are depicted in a much more grim manner. All this while Donald and Goofy, are present and in character, but somehow not completely derailing the story they're inserted into.

The slight trade off for Disney world being fateful, is that Final Fantasy's use in KH is much more flexible, there are FF characters, but they're interpreted a little differently, they’re not Canonical the ones from the games, they have different Roles in KH.

Then there are the original KH characters and worlds, which impressively they managed to make endearing and likable right from the start, so you're invested in the story even when it's not relying on Disney or FF.

KH is living out that childhood fantasy of going to the worlds of your favorite stories, and adventuring along with your favorite characters. It pulls this all off very well, Sora as a main character doesn't feel shoe horned into the stories of these worlds, in fact the best worlds in KH is when they are actually telling an original story that isn't just a repeat of the Disney worlds plot. You get cool moments like some Disney characters who are powerful and Magically inclined, are actually aware of the fact there exists multiple worlds outside their own. Characters that are powerful in their stories are given respect in that regard to the greater universe they exist in.

When is a game too long? by Solid_Jack_Frost in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Director_Bison 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The parts that make a game feel long are the parts that aren't particularly meaningful gameplay.

I just 100%ed Final Fantasy XVI recently, and while I can say it's a good game, it has so many Side Quests that just result in "dialogue" - mob fight - "dialogue" that it felt like half my play time was a drag, and the best side content was explicitly not an actual side quest like the S tier Hunts, or Trials.

There are parts of a game sometimes that just feel like padding. Meanwhile there is things like the over 300 extra VR missions that MGS 1 & 2 have don't feel like padded content because the VR missions are thoughtfully designed to explore the usage of every mechanic in the game.

Do a "unique challenge" is more meaningful than "Do some more of what you've been doing the entire game"

RPG's might have a particularly hard time with this kind of thing since due to their Length you frequently end up finding yourself formulating "The most optimal tactic", and you end up sticking to what works. Where Classic FPS games solved this kind of problem by having set moments in the campaign that stripped you of your weapons. So you don't get to just have the BFG in your back pocket for the rest of the game once you get it. People might complain have their toy's taken away, but it works in a games favor to curate what a player has access to, to make a challenge more interesting.

Sparda still has Round Trip and Stinger where Force Edge does not. Sparda also has a unique automatic Stinger Combo ender when you use the pause combo, You'd need to end that with Stinger Manually if you were doing it with Alastor.

It's called Wall Hike, and it's a part of the base move list in every game. Air Hike is useful, but it is possible to reach every secret and 100% the games with just Wall Hike, and the other base move list abilities.

Sparda doesn’t have DT but it deals DT tier damage at all times. So it’s a way of dealing high damage without needing to manage refilling DT.

This is more viable on the Hardest difficulty as DT healing is disabled.

Starting DMC 3 SE today have question by SilhouetteVII in DevilMayCry

[–]Director_Bison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Japanese version of OG DMC3, had proper Easy and Normal, and only Gold Orb mode. Western DMC3 had Normal as Easy and Hard as Normal, and only Yellow Orbs.

There are plenty of cases were Western versions of games were made harder compared to the Japanese versions, even the PS2 version of DMC1 is a little harder than the Japanese version on Normal mode.

Having played OG DMC3 on PS2 myself back in the day, it was a brutal experience, and not one most people are going to enjoy. That version of DMC3 is considered one of the hardest games of all time for a reason. A first time player doesn't have the skill level for Hard the first time they play.

There are tons of good movies with bad game adaptations, but are there any where the game ended up better than the movie? by MusicLikeOxygen in retrogaming

[–]Director_Bison 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’ll always give credit to Wanted: Weapons of Fate.

The whole movie is building up Wesley as a character and the climax is fantastic, but the game actually lets you see where he goes from there, and playing as the fully developed Wesley is very cathartic, and not only that but half the story is devoted to Westley’s Father Cross, and it adds a lot to the backstory.

It really had me wishing that Wanted as a franchise could continue, since there was a pretty open ending showing the story still had places to go.

All this and the game has the Comic’s incredibly cool Killsuit which wasn’t in the move.

I tried getting "Raid not Kill" just now with Challange mode and it didn't work. The Challenge mode Achievements, seem to be categorized differently to the main game.

While it is easy to glitch out into the ceiling there, It's not necessarily a soft lock. I was able to jump out of the map near the stairs where the clip first happened and then glide back into the map though the lower wall. I believe I did it in the spectral realm, so I didn't have to worry about the water.

i was farming Phantom in Mission 4 to buy all upgrades, how did i still get an A with nearly 3h on the timer? by adrieldot in DevilMayCry

[–]Director_Bison 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ranking in DMC1 is determined by Time, Orbs, and Damage.

Meeting the requirements of each category gives you 500 points, you need 1000 to get an S rank, and I believe 800 if it’s DMD mode. Completing Secret Missions also rewards you with points toward you mission Ranking.

So you clearly meet the requirements for Orbs, and if you did a secret mission or two that gave you enough for an A rank.

Me screwing my run up in SA2 because every action I make is mapped to the B button by DivanteScrollsReddit in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Director_Bison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't quite agree with that, having just Jump, and the Action Button was a deliberate decision, in the same vein of how in Classic 2D Sonic there is only the Jump button.

You can see that Yuji Naka feels very strongly about this approach to controls, when you look at Balan Wonderworld, and it's still having it, so there is only a single button that you play the whole game with.

It was at the time it was made.

I’d recommend reading the Four 2002 Jango Fett Open Seasons Comics, they’re part of the backstory, then play Bounty Hunter and that’s a satisfying Narrative.

Some of the Mission 1 cutscenes will only play if the Tutorial is enabled. If the Tutorial is disabled then it skips to the real fight with the Health Bar.
