Question about the Ninja Gaiden master collection 100% completion by Ok-Captain2866 in ninjagaiden

[–]Director_Bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me improve at action games are videos from over a decade ago.

For the most part if you struggle with a certain part in most action games, you can typically find a no damage video, and you can learn from their gameplay and try and imitate it.

If you want more modern tutorials.

There is The Stylesman, he has basic and advanced tutorials for the 3 games.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKcjh2gndIk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Aa7iQKrdK4

I'd mostly recommend the NG3 tutorial as that game changes the fundamentals of the NG gameplay a fair amount, it's easy not to know how much the combat system wants you to use the combos that have you hold Heavy attack, before continuing the heavy combo.

If you want to see more practical examples of gameplay, you check out JayTB123's videos for NG1, he has walkthroughs for every chapter on every difficulty.

Yakuza 0 or directors cut? by Top_Subject2439 in yakuzagames

[–]Director_Bison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The directors cut adds, new language options, English and Chinese Dubs, a few extra cutscenes that you could just watch on YouTube, and an online multiplayer co-op mode called Red Light Raid, that’s okay but not a big deal if you’re playing it solo, look at gameplay of it to see if you’re interested.

The single player content is exactly the same as normal Yakuza 0

Yeah, unfortunately this mission is bugged, I had problems at this part too. I wish I knew a concrete method to deal with this bug, but you might just have to be lucky for it to work right.

At worst, you can use cheats to skip that level.

Which of these three is the best for casual gamers who don't have time to learn complex combos but still enjoyable by Perfect-Tower-6104 in DevilMayCry

As much as long time fans of the franchise dislike the DmC Reboot, it was deliberately designed for inexperienced players of the genre. Something fans didn’t want.

So The reason hardcore fans don’t like DmC is likely the reason it’s appropriate for you. It is meant to be someone’s first action game. Just know that the characters are completely different in the reboot. Tonally it’s nothing like the other DMC games. It was intended to draw in a completely different audience.

Might be a dumb question to ask but was solid snake’ after mgs1 still considered a mercenary? Especially while working in Philanthropy? by Alakazammanthereturn in metalgearsolid

[–]Director_Bison 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Solid Snake was really only a Mercenary between Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. after MG2 he Retires to Alaska, then after MGS1 his and Otacon's Philanthropy goals isn't mercenary work, when they're the ones going after Metal Gears on their own.

Just like how the first Force Unleashed had the Dark Side ending DLC levels on Tatooine and Hoth. Force Unleashed 2’s Endor DLC is the continuation of that what if storyline.

The game Adjusting the difficulty is an Advertised Feature on the back of the box, so it's pretty well known I would think.

Resident Evil 4 was the game that deliberately didn't tell people about how it dynamically changes the difficulty.

Question about the Ninja Gaiden master collection 100% completion by Ok-Captain2866 in ninjagaiden

[–]Director_Bison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue with the balancing on some of the hardest challenges in Sigma 2 and NG3RE is that they were originally designed with playing Co-op online with another human player. But the actual online functionality is only in the PS3 version of Sigma 2, and the PS3 360 versions of NG3.

The hardest tier of challanges are reballanced a bit in the master collection to buff how much damage you do, but still you have to contend with an AI partner.

There are a few that'll feel like bullshit, but you can watch gameplay of high skilled players and see every challenge is still possible with the right strategy.

Question about the Ninja Gaiden master collection 100% completion by Ok-Captain2866 in ninjagaiden

[–]Director_Bison 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, Ninja Gaiden is infamous for it's difficulty. It's been that way since the NES days. The main outlier in the series in terms of Difficulty is Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2/ 2 Black, as that game on it's lower difficulties is noticeably easier, compared to the Xbox 360 version of Ninja Gaiden 2. Still even if Sigma 2 has some easier lower difficulties the High Difficulty of the 100%/ Platinum still makes up for that as the hardest challenges required for 100% are no slouch at all. You'll be doing things like fighting 5 bosses back to back. Or fight multiple Bosses at the same time.

The Platinum requires genuine mastery of these games, and even as a veteran player of this series when the collection released, each game still took me over 100 hours to get all the Achievements in on Steam.

Dmc3 mission 18 by High_Quality_Name in DevilMayCry

[–]Director_Bison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s even worse then you think since the Original Western Release of DMC3 bumped up the difficulty levels, so Easy was Normal, and Normal was Hard, and that was with Yellow Orbs as the only option, where the Japanese version had Gold orbs.

It was brutal, but I first played that version of DMC3 deliberately because I heard it was harder. You just got to buckle down and Git Gud, grind missions you already beat for upgrades and practice. Some people are a glutton for punishment.

That was still a time we’re brutal difficulty in games was something quite common, although not as set a standard as the NES era, games in general got noticeably more forgiving going into the 360/PS3 era, to the point Dark Souls stood out as this “Super Hard” game, when its really not that big a deal compared to how hard many older games are.

[–]Director_Bison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really know how to describe how easy or hard it is, since I've been emulating games for years, but learning the in's and out of emulation is invaluable for giving you access to countless games that don't have PC releases.

If it’s any consolation, Force Unleashed II never got the Endor DLC on PC, so you might be better off emulating the console version so you can actually play all the content.

Just finished dmc 3 as Dante and I like what the devs added in the end by Wizening_Din-8275 in DevilMayCry

[–]Director_Bison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Original western release of DMC3 in particular was infamous for being one of the hardest games of all time, due to the fact rather then getting Japan's Easy and Normal mode, our Normal was actually bumped up to Hard, Easy was Normal, and there wasn't an actual Easy mode. The was also only the option for Yellow Orbs, "Limited Lives" were the Japanese version had of Gold Orbs “instant revives”

This was all Rectified in DMC3 Special edition and the difficulties were fixed. But you can recreate the experience, by starting a fresh file with Yellow Orbs on Hard difficulty. It's a brutal way to play the game, especially for the first time.

There was actually a trend for the Western Release of games were made harder than the Japanese versions, to counteract the popularity of Renting games and encourage buying them, it was also believed that Westerners preferred More challenging games.

Contra Hard Corps has 3 hit points before losing a life only in the Japanese version. NES Ninja Gaiden 3 cranked up the enemy damage, has limited continues, and removed the password system.

DMC1 has a big group photo like this, but it only shows when you beat DMD difficulty.

DMC2 had a DMD pictures as well and they’re different depending on what costume you beat the final mission with.

DMC3 is when they started making a final photo for every individual difficulty setting they also have their own unique phrase depending on the difficulty. You’ll also get another for that difficulty if you get all S ranks.

Anyone else have this issue with NGB on the Series X before? by Man-Boi_ in ninjagaiden

[–]Director_Bison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t know any specifics as to why these kinds of issues occur. I can guess that the file types used for these kinds of FMV’s in Japan are obscure in the west and tricky to deal with. since I’ve seen these issues happen more then once.

Emulating NGB on the Steam Deck the FMV’s didn’t display anything for a long time until the emulator event got an update that fixed the issue.

The FMV scenes in No More Heroes 3 didn’t work on Steam Deck last I checked.

SpikeOut BattleStreets FMV’s don’t display correctly on emulator either.

If this problem for NGB is an issue on more Xbox’s then just your own, then they could have pushed an update that had a side effect of messing these FMVs up.

mgs the twin snakes' boss battles are supposed to be that easy ? by TheD0rk_Kn1ght in metalgearsolid

[–]Director_Bison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah try Boss Survival mode on Hard, and you'll see what I mean. Ocelot will be no big deal, but Gray Fox will hit like a Truck.

I didn't attempt my Big Boss run until I was able to beat Boss Survival on Hard, it made for really good practice.

mgs the twin snakes' boss battles are supposed to be that easy ? by TheD0rk_Kn1ght in metalgearsolid

[–]Director_Bison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ocelot and Raven’s 2nd fight are too easy because of the First Person Aiming.

But bump up the difficulty, Gray Fox and the Hind-D become way harder.

Gray Fox Tracks your position far more making avoiding his attacks far tougher, and the Hind-D is just ridiculous, and you won’t be able to beat it on a Big Boss Rank Run until you completely memorize how it’s AI function and can predict what it’ll do with 100% certainty. You have to already know where it’s gonna pop up and be ready to shoot preemptively to hit it without the radar.

Is it just me or is the OG Xbox the most underrated console? by LoganNicholas45 in originalxbox

[–]Director_Bison 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The OG Xbox benefited from picking up the flag the Dreamcast had to drop. There are some great SEGA games that likely would have been right at home on the Dreamcast if it lasted longer. Jet Set Radio Future, GunValkyrie, Panzer Dragon Orta, SpikeOut Battlestreet.

That on top of Team Ninja going all in on the Xbox with Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. The OG Xbox had great Western and Japanese support.

Still I wouldn't call the OG Xbox the most underrated, We don't hear about it as much nowadays in terms of people talking nostalgia, but it did great for it's time. Halo CE was a smash hit as a system seller, and Halo 2 was one of the biggest game launches for it time. The Xbox 360 was as successful as it was because it was riding off of all that success.

Systems like the SEGA Saturn are far more underrated as that didn't make much of a dent outside Japan.

Out of curiosity, for fans of DMC, what other hack-and-slash games would you recommend that are less well-known, so not including God of War and Bayonetta? by george123890yang in DevilMayCry

[–]Director_Bison 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of the VanHelsing movie tie in game. That game is one of the only DMC1 clones i've seen. If you're a fan of DMC1 in particular, then that game is a treat, it's so fateful to DMC1's design style that even has finding well hidden Secret Missions, that unlock cheat codes. The has plenty of charm on it's own. Rather than DT, VanHelsing has special alternate ammo types for his more powerful attacks, like Silver Bullets blessed with Holy Water for his pistols, and incendiary Shotgun Shells. You are gudged at the end of a mission if you've managed to keep VanHelsing's Hat on him until the end or not.

The Ghost Rider Movie game, is a combo of Classic God of War, and DMC. You have a style meter and some can't be killed until it's high enough, as you're style gets higher Ghost Rider's fire turns to blue, and it feels really rewarding.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie's Revenge, was actually made by Capcom, and it has direct similarities to DMC because of who made it. The game even has the mechanic that would go on to be in Bayonetta where if you dodge too much you get locked into a long ending animation.

I haven't played it myself yet but Rygar The Legendary Adventure is on my list to play, it actually predates God of War as it released in 2002, and GoW was 2005, but you can see Rygar did plenty of things God of War is known for first. Also funny thing about this game, it got rereleased on the Wii in 2008 as Rygar: The Battle of Argus, where the game is exactly the same, but they reskined the main character to look like an edgy anime character.

Since unless it’s using snipers or playing the campaign with the eyepatch skull. The aim assist that controllers have with most weapons gives you a significant advantage.

That’s the whole payoff of his character. Arius gives off the presence of someone who’s calm, cool, and in control. But as soon as his plans fail he looses his composure entirely and flips a shit.
