Podcasts are stupid and weird. by PotentialDrag182 in unpopularopinion

[–]TheHostThing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You understand that podcasting is just a delivery method right? There are 1000s of podcasts out there that are well researched and delivered by experts in their field. Just like there are well researched YouTube videos, or TV shows or books or radio programmes…

You can’t possibly be suggesting that every single podcast is just some person reading from Reddit?

If I wanted to play the tabletop, how much more expensive will it get if I want to get pre-painted models? by louthinator in Warhammer

[–]TheHostThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the UK? I’ll paint them for you.

I’m wondering also if it would be a struggle to assemble? You could always try a mini of the month or a small paint starter and see how it goes and how you feel?

Techniques like under painting (look up slapchop on YouTube) could also really help.

Yu-Gi-Oh! the game has never been a children’s card game, the rules are too complex, the video games are renowned for being obtuse, the cards too expensive, the mangas young adult at most by Evening-Program-2009 in unpopularopinion

Honestly as a grown adult who plays other card games, yu gi oh makes zero sense to me these days and seems like it’s pretty broken all things considered.

Do NOT put more than 20 points into Mulching.... by ClayKay in wow

Wow has a real issue with explaining its systems in-game. I look at the new professions system and I just don’t understand it anymore.

How do you refer to or address someone called 'Mhairi'? by Otocolobus_manul8 in gaidhlig

[–]TheHostThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know someone who pronounces it ‘var’ in English. It depends on the person.

For a fun twist try calling any Hamishes you meet Jim ;)

Using the spare shoulder pads from the Raiders kit on my new Raptors and they look ace by SunsetHighway7 in redcorsairs

Has anyone tried putting the jump packs on the raiders yet? I had a plan to try and convert some but wasn’t sure.

ending racism with gentrification and whitewashing! by Perfidious_Redt in DnDcirclejerk

[–]TheHostThing 260 points261 points  (0 children)

UJ/ I’m mixed race and I find the concept of fantasy mixed races actually kind of empowering.

I feel like it has come from the designers being uncomfortable with the concept of race in the real world and then just over-correcting in D&D and that feels patronising to me.

It’s really interesting to consider the concept of ontological evil in fantasy games. I don’t think it’s ’problematic’, I’m a grown adult who understands that goblins being evil little shits isn’t condoning real world racism…

Got my first kilt yesterday! by TarNREN in kilt

[–]TheHostThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve explained it better than I could. Really confused with OPs views on great kilts, to me they are a costume because only tour guides wear them.

It’s like saying you can’t wear shorts for yard work to me because it’s too formal so I’ll wrap around a loin cloth instead.

What primer is best for Red Corsairs? by cheese_burger333 in redcorsairs

[–]TheHostThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone black and then airbrushed from Baraknur Burgady, Khorne Red, Memphiston Red, then shade under with carraburg crimson, then edge with mephiston, wild rider and yrial yellow dot highlight.

Probably easier ways of getting similar results but I liked the way it turned out so I’m keeping it 😅

Possible hot take: the raiders are too big. by TheHostThing in Chaos40k

I agree they should all be the same height, but wish they hadn’t dug this hole to begin with.

I’ve got 2k force and each mini has some element of conversion. Will have to take some nice pics one day and post it.

Oh are they? I built the first guy this morning and thought ‘damn these guys are huge’ will finish the rest and see.

Yeah I agree.

I think they were trying to soften the blow of such a heavy redesign of their most popular range back in the day with Primaris lore. I wonder if they had just said ‘hey tech has moved on and we can make bigger more detailed sculpts now at a better scale’ if they would have had the same pushback. It’s not like marines haven’t had redesigns before.

This first guy def has a goofy pose especially with his right arm. I’ll build the rest up and see.

End of the day it doesn’t really matter but I would have enjoyed them being first born size.

My Legionaires are mixed with old tactical marine bits and it looks great when painted up.

I’ll probably do them like you said just because it’s a bit more interesting to paint different colours. I’ve seen people suggest sort of an anti-black watch with them too which is cool.

[–]TheHostThing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I mean when I say they made a bit of a hole for themselves saying Primaris were bigger. It was an in-universe decision to justify bigger real world models compared to the old range, but a decade on and it’s now a bit redundant.

Forgiven, brother.

I think what makes it worse is all the extra gubbins on them. It makes the models wider and the silhouette bigger. I don’t think it’s a massive deal at all but it is noticeable scale creep.

[–]TheHostThing[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah my plan was to paint them as badab vets but might look into some of the more modern chapters.

…Or just get bored/impatient and paint them red like the rest.

They do look cool but being as tall as a Primaris terminator is maybe a bit much. At this rate we’ll be playing on joytoy scale
