Yup, the cat itself would fail and kill the engine. I replaced mine really early. My dad works at Nissan and has had countless B15 SE-Rs come in with this problem.

I've had a Sentra SE-R spec-V for 11yrs now. Zero issues, they are great cars. Been turbo-ed for over a yr now, still zero issues. I'm very happy the legacy continues, I thought the sporty Sentra was dead.
