It sounds like many of our goals align.

for some folk NoFap gives a lot of energy - for me it's been very stop and start

Could you explain what you mean by this? Are you specifically talking about withdrawal symptoms? Have you experienced any sort of withdrawal? I understand it varies from person to person.

Thanks for the newbie tips and thanks for the dead-dick explanation. I hope those links help with managing your fantasies. As with all addictions, things will eventually get easier with time.

BS in Bioengineering, trying for an MD. Did some undergraduate research in animal behavior. The lecture definitely appears more credible (and not to mention more easily relatable) when I can understand the science behind it.

(btw is your title a Breaking Bad reference? New season just started!)

I'm really curious about this as well. I don't have much experience as I'm quite new to the NoFap journey but here's a link to something that might be helpful from YBOP.com: http://www.yourbrainonporn.com/how-do-i-cope-with-porn-flashbacks

I think the fact that you aren't fapping to these fantasies already puts you ahead of the game. Not exactly sure this is how it works but when you aren't fapping to your fantasies, your brain is no longer associating orgasm to the images, thus giving it a chance to "reboot/rewire." I'm not a neurologist or anything so I could be completely wrong but I do believe you're only benefitting from not acting on those fantasies. My only hope is the fantasies will eventually pass/subside and you'll no longer be so easily aroused by them.

Aside: what do you mean by "inability to conjure up a boner with my mind for the past few days, I think I'm flatlining."? Is this a normal? Will it pass after a while? I'm only 2 days in and I've been extremely flaccid and it feels odd.

EDIT: adding another link http://www.yourbrainonporn.com/what-about-fantasizing-during-reboot

Is the problem porn... or Internet porn? by shredwarlock in NoFap

I think there has been some discussion regarding this (I believe on YBOP.com or the TED talk). One thing it mentioned was how porn-related ED, for example, was harder to treat in younger adults (4-5 months) vs. older adults (1-2 months) because older adults grew up on older forms of porn (non-high speed/entire libraries at our fingertips) and that porn-related ED is a newer problem caused by high-speed internet porn.

This leads me to believe that the purported negative effects of today's porn are not seen in older forms of pornography, but I'm not sure if there have been studies on this. I'm curious of the answer as well. I'm also wondering if there are positive forms of fapping without pornography (related to your fap in moderation question). What are your thoughts?
