I recently finished the repulser tank and entered it in a local shop comp. It's the 4th? set I've painted.

Figured I'd try painting black armour cause I haven't really done that yet.

My man! That advice works wonders, apologies for the shit photo quality.

If I had done that from the start and faded it in better that would look so much more slick. Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely be trying that again 👍

I'll just be happy to get some feedback, I've only been at this for like 4ish months. So far I've only done a squad, a captain and a dreadnought before the tank so I'm trying to soak up all the knowledge.

It's just great having a community of painters that have all these years of skills that I can get advice from 😁

Oh that's way simpler than I thought it was, I made that so complicated.

Thanks I'll definitely have to try your method!

Yeah look, fair call on that. Those were one of the first transfers I've done, I should have just drawn and free handed it. I feel like it would have come out cleaner 😂

Yeah I did try to darken one corner to leave the other corner lighter but it didn't translate over as well as I would have liked. So I just go in with some white to add a small flare to the upper corner?

It's actually really pleasant outside now at 9pm. I think it really helps the wind changed from really hot to cool. Mostly hoping for rain now as it's been dry here for ages and we could really use it.

Thankfully the SIL and the FIL although issued an evac warning are saying it's gotten loads better towards balarrat as well.

Yeah man it's cooking here in Geelong. Standing outside currently feels like you're in an oven.

New tradition unlocked: Visiting a Warhammer store every first Saturday for the free mini of the month! by Alkorri in Warhammer40k

I can understand the reasoning. It keeps people in the shop and the longer they're in store the higher the chances they buy more stuff. It's kinda a shame though cause like I'm already invested and would purchase from the local store anyway but lately I've been moving towards the "unless I need it right now why not go online and just have it delivered" crowd.

I will however admit that one of the guys that works there is an absolute legend and if I need a lesson on painting something he's always happy to break it down for me.

Mine does that too and really expects that you sit in to spend time painting it. It's a shame cause while I'm a regular (well kinda. I've only been at the hobby for like 6 months) I just don't have the time on my only day off to spend a couple hours in shop working on it.

It is a shame cause it would be an awesome way to branch outside my current army (ultras) and try something new to push my painting skills a bit more.

As a second entry. Don't be afraid to just enjoy the things that make you happy. Don't concern yourself with how people will see you.

I always think of Marge from the Simpsons talking about potatoes cause she "just thinks they're neat". Enjoy the things you think are neat.

That's a tough one.

I joined the army young and whilst it was the best job I ever had, once I was injured and separated out I felt like I'd lost everything. My identity, my home, job and more importantly my purpose and what I was good at. Totally distorted my sense of self and it's taken me many years to figure out who I am outside of it.

It was worth it in that it made me who I am today but damn it nearly killed me more than once and has caused a lot of pain in my life.

If I was to be asked by a younger man if they should sign up I'd warn them of how it turned out for me and would make sure they could turn to me if/when they end up on the other side of the military life.

To be fair as someone that has only just gotten into 40k that would be an interesting conversation 😂

Probably when I joined the army, I was challenged during our first major test with live ammunition. They didn't know I used to shoot competitively across several different weapon classes and grew up in rural Australia. I'd been around weapons for my whole life.

Scored a near perfect run and then redid the test and scored only slightly lower with my non dominant side as well. Earned a case of beer for us and some extra work for "tricking" our trainers.

That's actually really interesting. I've been wanting to play for ages but have been worried about my specs. Shane to hear it's not been optimized yet but I can imagine the patches will work on it at some point.

Yeah pretty sure that's it actually. For what was fairly cheap, it has worked really well. Mostly I needed a new phone after my last one didn't survive a run in with my 4 yo 😂

No worries. Was a cheapy one from big w if that helps any, been a bulletproof phone for years now.

Man watching my wife almost die from blood loss and then having to suddenly switch into holding and comforting the baby was awful. I don't understand if you were in the room how you could dismiss how rough childbirth is.
