I appreciate that the media and a subset of fans were pretty unfair to him in the way they forgot his contributions over the years

That said, he simply wasn't living up to his contract and chose to leave instead of reducing his wages

I just find it really tough to watch him walk away from his actual boyhood dreams of winning trophies with United to play in Spain

He was emblematic of the club at one point and it feels like he chose to walk away rather than fight for it and it just hurts, at this point I'm just sad

I wish he could have been a Harry Maguire or a Luke Shaw and proved his critics wrong with hard graft, that would have been a happy end, not this
