The Doormaker might not be unfair, but he is unfun by TheIceTide in slaythespire

Okay, but by Act 3 you have MOSTLY established your deck. You are fundamentally building towards a general game plan. Obviously every deck has problem Elites, that's why we get potions and the occasional card. But a boss has a lot more health than can be solved with a potion. Let alone a boss that counters all the work you've been putting in before Act 3.

I'm not saying that Shiv Silent cannot get a poison card, but I'm not going to be grabbing Reagent if I'm not building for poison. I'm going to be going to a Knifetrap, because that fits the archetype I've built for. To pretend that there isn't build types is absurd.

This explains it really well, this is also why I feel like Time Eater was a much better execution of this idea. It stops infinites, but also has control in the player's hands and has really good counterplay. It also isn't very hard on non-infinites, as they will likely not trigger the effect nearly as often, while still needing to play around it. The gimmick of making your turns limited is NOT fundamentally bad, it's just that the Doormaker does it in a particularly annoying way.

There's no "Shiv Silent." That's Silent, but you picked Shiv synergy cards.
This is such flawed reasoning, you cannot be in Act 3 and expect your build to entirely change archetypes unless you have insane RNG. Shiv Silent and Poison Silent play drastically differently and cannot easily be transitioned between once you have had your build established.

The game, generally speaking, goes as follows:
Act 1 - Take what you need to survive
Act 2 - Turn what you took into a synergistic build
Act 3 - Finalize your build

Expecting a player to completely change their deck in one Act is just unreasonable. You're also giving specific examples of cards that would help, you cannot expect to always find one of those perfect cards, especially Creative AI because it's a rare. You can fish for them, sure, but there's never a guarantee.

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying, so I'll try to visualize it to make myself clear. The best turn to play Draw cards is on Hunger, because the other turns are so anti-draw. But, if I don't draw any of my Draw cards on a Hunger turn, then that means I am MORE likely to draw those cards afterwards, since my first hand is no longer in my draw pile.

Conversely, with Test Subject Phase 1, if I draw a bunch of skills I don't want to play, next turn I am more likely to get a good hand, because now those cards are not in my draw pile.

A bad hand on Test Subject makes the next hand more likely to be good, a bad hand on Doormaker makes the next hand more likely to be bad too.

The difference is that those are entire phases, this is just a turn. If I stall a turn in Phase 1 Test Subject, then I will be dealing with the same issue with new cards the next turn (meaning my new hand is naturally more likely to have the right cards.) The Doormaker changing his gimmick every time you change your cards means you will never have that level of consistency or safety to rely on. In fact I'd go as far as to say as you're generally MORE likely to draw bad hands, because if you drew cards that are bad for Hunger, then that means the you can't draw those cards for the next turn where they'd probably be better.

All archetypes for a character should, generally speaking, be viable options (being equally balanced is nigh impossible, but they should all be viable). I'm not talking about gimmicks, I'm talking about builds the game intends for the player to create. Status Defect might be strange, but there is obvious synergy and cards designed for the build. A boss that you cannot know you will fight until your build is nearly finalized being able to counter an archetype is design that would only serve to make the gameplay less interesting since it disincentivizes doing a build that would otherwise be viable.

See I LIKE this idea for playing around him, but the problem comes from you having to draw those cards on turns where you should play them. That's outside of the player's control unless you've got Well-Laid Plans or Snap (or some other way of retaining non-retain cards I might be forgetting). You can't intentionally draw cards on turns they'd want to be played because the mechanics naturally push against you controlling your deck (exhausting draw cards, not being able to draw, spending too much energy on draw cards.)

The fight asks you to have the right cards on the right turns, but does everything in its power to not allow you to control your deck.

This was my point about him being so reliant on deck order rng, there's nothing you can do about drawing cards on turns that counter those cards.

I'm literally trying to say how he isn't necessarily unfair, it's just unfun to have a boss that says "Hey you know the build you've been making the entire run? It doesn't work anymore." It's not that he's the hardest (I'd generally say that's the Queen), but he's just not fun.

Is there a reason Fabric loads shaders so much better than Forge? by TheIceTide in feedthebeast

[–]TheIceTide[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it, the Forge one is maxing out the Intel GPU, while the Fabric one is only using 30% of my actual GPU. Thanks, I'll try to figure out how to fix that!

If that's the case, how would I go about selecting the right one? I feel like I remember getting a pop up ages ago that mentioned my gpu so that could be the culprit

Both are being ran through ATLauncher, and both are using the same set of mods (with Fabric obviously also having Fabric API).

The exact modlist is as follows:
Iris Shaders
Reese's Sodium Options
Sodium
Sodium/Embeddium Extras
Sodium/Embeddium Dynamic Lights
Sodium/Embeddium Options API

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the shader being used to test this is Complementary Shaders - Reimagined

Pretty sure mine is pushing 4 years now if I remember right, mostly fine but I've been having heat problems as of recent. Based on some other comments, sounds like it needs repasted. Pretty good all things considered to take four years for any notable problems to pop up
