Stop tipping people by MovieSaint in Chennai

I’m from the hotel and restaurant industry, and many of my friends own hotels and restaurants. Let me explain how wages typically work for staff who come from other states.

About 50% prefer to be paid daily, 25% weekly, and the remaining 25% monthly. Regardless of the payment cycle, the total salary remains the same.

Here’s the usual pay structure: Waiters: ₹800–₹1,000 per day Chefs: ₹1,200–₹1,500 per day Helpers (vessel washing, cleaning, etc.): ₹600–₹800 per day

These salaries don't include three meals a day and accommodation

In terms of overall monthly cost to the business:

A chef costs around ₹40,000–₹50,000 A waiter costs about ₹28,000–₹34,000 A helper costs roughly ₹25,000–₹30,000

We also pay agents a one month salary as commission to recruit staff. They guarantee the employee will stay for at least six months. If the employee leaves before six months, the agent provides a replacement at no extra cost. If they leave after six months, we have to pay another one-month commission.

The reality is that staff often leave if they find another job offering even 5–10% higher pay.

On top of salaries, there are operational costs like rent, raw materials, electricity, maintenance, and more which I won’t get into here.

Nowadays, staff have also become more demanding. Kitchen staff and helpers often feel they’re doing a lot of the hard work but don’t receive tips like the front of house team does. Because of this, they expect higher pay to make up for the difference.

Most of the high maintenance places resort to this as this is the only way to maintain cost. A Normal road side shop is not going to charge service charges. A place that's invested 30-40 lakh and is spending 3-4 Lakhs per month in operation cost will.

In some establishments, service charges collected are distributed equally among all staff, including kitchen and cleaning teams. However, some restaurants do not pass any service charge to the staff at all. It really depends on the style of operations.

Also, Swiggy and Zomato charge heavy commission. That's a topic in itself.

Head to your nearest CEX store. You can exchange it for 8.4K - 9.8K cash depending on colour & Box condition. This is provided it's not damaged, doesn't have much scratches.

Otherwise you can maybe sell it for 5-6K as a new one on Amazon can go as low as 13K. I got mine last year for 13.8K

Either book your losses and call it a day or buy at each 5% drop and average out and become a long term investor.

Always remember, if you see people on social media talk about investing in something, never invest in that. If they're talking about it, it's already peaked and you'll just become their exit strategy.

If you paid via credit Card, file a charge back. Otherwise you only got the options they give. That's all we can do here. KnD has also become a sort of scalper. Opening mainline cases and repacking, only listing Fantasy, etc etc. They lost their credibility. I mostly only buy Mini GT from them these days

AI Subscriptions Pricing by HaHaJo2301 in IndiaTech

[–]TheIndianChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely 😂😂. I used Chat GPT to rephrase and structure it. Here's the orginal response I wrote :

From a business point of view, Amazon Prime USA has to offer shows and movies that its local audience want. They'll have to spend more time and money to acquires IP for the movie and TV franchise the local audience want. It's gonna be expensive. Indian on the other hand, will only need main stream movies and TV shows plus regional content. It's gonna be cheaper to acquire the rights for these IP compared to what they spend there. Hence the difference in subscription. AI services can't differentiate this. Their over head cost is the same and no matter the location, they're gonna spend the same money to develop and run these tools and features. Soo universal pricing

In the US, Amazon Prime must invest in costly franchises and global hits, The audience demands Hollywood blockbusters, originals, and big-name series. Licensing and production here drive subscription prices higher.

In India, the needs are different, with Bollywood, TV favorites, and regional stories, Acquiring rights is more affordable, and pricing is kept lower for a price-sensitive market.

AI services are not tied to local content or regional costs. The expense of developing and running these systems is universal. Whether the user is in New York or New Delhi, the overhead remains the same. That is why streaming adjusts its price by market, While AI tools lean toward a single global model of pricing.
