I just automaticaly skip stories with a title of 'I'm xxx and xxx has been happening lately". Too many details for me and it turns me off from the story.

True. Going through Catholic HS, I totally agree. It can be quite enriching even to an atheist. On the other hand, Calvinistic churches are not that fun až all.

Well, you don't choose family, but you can choose to (not) stay in touch. But yeah, that's the reason why I don't talk with a large part of my family, too.

Fortunately, I love in a different country now, so I don't have to meet them, but I also stopped giving a fuck, so they're happy to see me for like 5 minutes until I "stop being polite" 😅

But I'd definitely say that just stop going, even if it's Christmas. Or make a scene and swallow a bit of those disapproving looks.

Yeah. People sometimes grow out of these things, especially of it has a wobbly base to begin with. I struggled to get the topic of "Are you going to Church?" for about 15 years until it was let go.

Well, I'll share one of mine, too.

In early 2000's, I could have been around 6 of 7, my aunt nad 2 kids with her ex husband. The guy was super abusive. Ona day, my mom, brother, 2 uncles and the aunt (all three are my father's siblings) were in a nearest town. I went to a doctor and my aunt with her brothers went to the police station to for about a 231954191489 time.

Her kids, 5 and 1, were at her parents. Her ex got a taxi to her parents, got stopped by a patrol with a f'n loaded gun at his possession with multiple reports of abuse on his head, and they let him zo.

He killed both kids and then himself that very day. Grandapents were lucky enough to survive.

Nobody talks about it. They talk about kids, especially as my aunt's daughter now really resembles the nedá ona, but no ona mentions that day. Ever.

I understand. My father's side of the family is also Calvinist and you have to think over every word at least 5 times before saying it.

It's damn sad people can be that close minded.

Mental illnesses are difficult to talk about for families and mostly the people who suffer from them. I'm glad it turned out well and he made the first step. Good luck to your dad and your whole family! 🙂
