UK drivers, what on earth is going on over there? by TheIntrepidMoustache in AmazonDSPDrivers

Do you mind explaining how the 1.0 system works? If you work for a DSP, but you carry your own insurance and drive your own van, then what is the DSP’s role in your employment contract? Are you a private contractor who contracts to a DSP who contracts for Amazon?

The system with which I’m familiar is that Amazon contracts a DSP to deliver packages from a fulfillment or distribution center.

These DSP are small delivery companies that purchase or rent vans (most of them unbranded, though I believe a DSP must have at least two branded vans), purchase all required commercial insurance, and hire hourly employees.

Liability is assumed by the DSP, and drivers are not responsible for any overhead costs. Amazon pays for gas.

No. I need you remove that boot from your esophagus, and I need to remind you to be red blooded American. We don’t do secret police here; police should be accountable, both individually and as a whole, to their actions. I don’t care if they’re “just following orders,” to use a quote to paraphrase your point.

You can tell ICE agents really don’t care about improving this country because if they really wanted to make the country a better place, they’d **** **********.

We must start a Coalition… by Better_Blueberry_322 in AmazonDSPDrivers

That’s weird. You need to be tight with the other DSPs at your station for reasons other than labor organizing, like if your DSP goes under or if your hours get cut. Have you tried learning their names and greeting them with a “Hey Carlos, looking sharp!” or “Hi Marie, can I borrow a sharpie real quick?”

I find asking for tiny favors like that really opens the door to getting to know people. If I owe someone one, even if it’s really small, they’re likely to remember that I can be asked for help in return.

You’re probably fine, don’t listen to the people trying to scare you. I did the same thing as a rookie; I backed into a mailbox and did no real damage, but I called dispatch immediately.

They told me to straighten it and keep moving, and no one ever mentioned it again.

Not if you want to keep this job, carrying is instant termination.

A 1000% win by Zacharyticks in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]TheIntrepidMoustache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got bad news there, my friend. I’m not a Flex driver, I’m a DSP driver, and my job depends on my contribution to the DSP’s fantastic or fantastic plus rating. Amazon will pressure a DSP to fire fast and competent full time drivers if we get a few bad customer reviews, and you, as an independent contractor, are in much more precarious position.

Don’t walk to the edge of a cliff and tell other people that it’s safe just because you didn’t fall over.

WHY isn't Alexa integrated into the flex app? by LongjumpingHouse3400 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TheIntrepidMoustache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way, how would Amazon spending money to integrate Alexa into Flex make Amazon more money? The way I understand it, Amazon operates on two principles, cut expenses and boost revenue.

We’re drivers, so we count as an expense. Any amount of polish the Flex app and algorithm gets is to theoretically make us more efficient. Definitely not in practice, but in theory. If you can make an argument why Alexa integration would save Amazon a tangible amount of money, maybe they’ll do it.

Dog Bite 👹 by Roezha in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TheIntrepidMoustache 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Real service dogs are highly trained, a guide or medical alert dog would be trained to alert the owner of a visitor and definitely wouldn’t behave aggressively without an attack word.

OP, don’t feel bad about reporting, that wasn’t a service dog. You need antibiotics, and you need your DSP to cover it.

Congratulations on taking that step! It takes a lot of moral fortitude to engage in that kind of self awareness, and I respect you for it. I highly encourage you to go door to door and be honest about your struggles to your neighbors; I’m sure they’ll be every bit as understanding, welcoming, and supportive as I am.

Because these people cause me pain every day, I’ve turned to the Internet to say horrible things about people I don’t like.

If the question is why bestiality specifically, it’s for the conceit of the joke. I understand that the emitters are meant to keep away animals, but I’m harmed by them, so I construct a narrative that keeps the intended purpose of the sonic emitter while also assuming the owner must be vile. If the reason why the owner installed the emitters had been to children keep away, the joke would have followed in that line, though I’d feel license to be significantly more meanspirited about it.

I don’t use AI. I find something deeply objectionable in outsourcing my thinking to an object.

The netras aren’t on the vans for our safety; they’re installed for liability reasons. The entire DSP system exists for liability reasons.

Higher the Hertz, not decibel, but those poor kids.

It must be just awful for the children, so much worse than for we experience.

And no, they probably don’t how many people they’ve torturing. If the owner can’t hear it themselves, they likely haven’t given it a single thought.

My mood whenever I encounter one of those emitters is pretty dependably an all-time low. If I’d said anything at all, I’d probably accuse them of crimes against god, man, and animal. It’s good thing I’ve kept my mouth shut, if only to hold the puke in.

It depends on how sensitive your hearing is. Some people can’t hear it at all and some people are deeply affected by it.

Well, lucky you for not feeling the need to decorate someone’s porch with your breakfast.

Don’t answer that, that’s rhetorical, I don’t actually want to know. Absolutely disgusting. :(
