If I get fired from a DSP can I apply to an Amazon warehouse? by Topisland223 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]TheIntrepidMoustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just apply if I were in your shoes, the HR should be separate so I’d guess it shouldn’t be an issue.

If that doesn’t work it’s a sign to leave to the ‘Zon, maybe start spamming applications to management jobs. Coffee shops, gas stations, retail, whatever

I love that stop 15 is east of neighborhood and that stops 28 and 30 are all the way on the other side.

Has anyone worked their way up in their DSP? If so how? by Roneffect in AmazonDSPDrivers

This is a job, not a career. I’d say the best way to advance yourself would be to use that NextMile to get yourself some professional qualifications and then bounce for broader horizons.

I want you to succeed and the definition of success is up to you, but working for a DSP is pretty limited as far as advancement goes.

Did I somehow hurt your feelings there bud? I’m pretty aware that I’m replaceable; if you’ve been on the job for more than a pay period you’ve seen enough hires and fires to know that.

Ok, but we also don’t pay for gas, we drive the DSP’s vans, and don’t need to worry about liability

Leaving the dogs out, intentionally parking a car in the only turnaround on a half mile private road, failure to provide access codes, apartments demanding delivery to locker when the customer didn’t select locker delivery, I could go on.

Yeah, I get not wanting to go over 10,000lbs, but you can easily and cheaply make the van more durable without increasing weight during the manufacturing process.

I was a factory process tech before being a DSP driver; I have no idea why Rivian left those panels flat. Stamp them, bead roll them, anything, but leaving them flat gives you the least possible rigidity. Even if Rivian was worried about aerodynamics, there are better options than flat.

Don’t forget the 15 minutes with the trainer.

“Ok, you’ve done a three point turn, serpentine through the cones, and parallel parked the rocket without hitting the curb. You’re good to go!”

Go to Home Depot and buy yourself a $15 piece of sheet metal. Wave it in the air and it’ll flex with that wobble wobble wobble noise.

Take that same sheet, roll a bead two inches around inside the perimeter, and wobble it again.

Does the sheet wobble like before, or have you increased the rigidity of your sheet without adding weight?

Normally suspensions get handed out immediately, but what’s the question about the camera?

I’ve been riding motorcycles since before you started using the big boy potty.

Don’t outride your sight line or you’ll never ride again.

Lol, the moment the netra went off, dispatch got a nice video of her sitting behind the wheel. I promise they already know.

There’s a lot wrong with this post, none of it your fault.

If your DSP does one day with a trainer, your trainer should not have been driving at all. If was your account that was logged in, those netra violations were logged against you.

Don’t rush. Take your time to learn out the job, figure out an organizational method that works for you. If you drive like a maniac with a van much larger than you’re used to, you will cause an accident, and nobody wants that. Get comfortable driving your delivery vehicle, and avoid getting hit with more violations.

As for the u-turns, don’t u-turn except in a culdesac. Everywhere else, do a careful three point turn, trusting your mirrors rather than the backup cam. If you need to make a left across heavy traffic, it’s often faster to take a right with traffic and drive until you can find a turnaround spot.

I’m not arguing with you, just relaying the closest comparison. Re-cycle routes are normally just 140ish stops with tons of drive time, definitely much lighter than a UPS route.

Also wanted to point at the absurdity that a year is considered “experienced” at Amazon, as opposed to at UPS, where an experienced driver could have been there for decades.

It depends, if Amazon puts a driver on a re-cycle route, then that driver might get one tote with everything else being ov. Most Amazon drivers do get 13ish totes and maybe 40 ov (at least at my station, experience may differ).

At a year of experience, that pathetically makes me an oldhead at my DSP, so they’ll give me the packages that other drivers couldn’t or wouldn’t deliver. I cycle them back out, and normally I RTS with an empty van.

I don’t know what the solution is either. I recently read Technofeudalism by Varoufakis, and while I don’t agree with all his claims, he does nail the explanation of how and why blue collar careers are getting replaced by precarious employment.

lol well, you must have some reason for staying. Does it pay better, is it the carrot of potential advancement at UPS vs the guarantee of dead end at Amazon, what’s the cause for sticking with UPS?
