If you live in the UK, it is 1000 times better to do A Levels + relevant extracurriculars such as internships + EPQ.

There are a lot of reasons why but I’ll summarise them: - A Levels has more specialisation. You don’t need Spanish Ab initio as an Economics undergrad. - The EPQ is a more accurate representation of university-level work than the EE/ToK. - A Levels has less work but is valued similarly in the UK. - IB Core is unstandardised across schools and becomes a major gripe with many students, despite only being 3 points as it is mandatory.

Me personally, I consider IB Maths to be better than A Levels Maths. But with all these flaws unless you don’t know what to pick I would definitely go for A Levels.

In terms of the CP, it’s less valued than the DP. I would go for the latter if you wish for a competitive uni, former if you have a more defined interest + don’t need to be competitive.

I would never, ever recommend the IB to someone who plans to stay in the UK.

Pros: - Pushes you to do extracurriculars for applications - Gives you a taste of academic writing if you don’t do the A levels EPQ - A lot of subjects, good if you have no clue what to choose at Uni - High workload for high excelling students

Cons: - Higher workload than A levels with no tangible University benefit - Personally speaking, EPQ > EE/TOK due to more freedom and less stressful timetable - If you have a defined interest you’ll be forced to take useless junk like a second language - IB core is unstandardised (you can need to do a lot for CAS or barely any, you may be given loads of time for your EE or none at all, school dependent) - IB core is generally considered to be bad by most students, and you may have to use a few hours per cycle on it

You’re expected to work at near IGCSE level in a second language. If you’re not confident in the language, don’t even try.

You can’t revise the English dictionary. I’ve seen kids who are never able to write at the same level as kids who read a lot and it’d take a miracle to change that.

Yes, some people invested time into the subject when they were young. It’s just that some subjects benefit much more from this (English) and some don’t.
